AEW Dynamite 9/4/24

Live from the UW Panther Arena in Milwaukee, Wisconsin!

Daniel Garcia is out and MJF is sitting in the crowd. MJF says Garcia can trust his mother, but that’s it. Garcia’s mom will take care of him when he’s in a wheelchair, laid up in bed, and it won’t be the first man that’s laid up in Garcia’s mother’s bed that he’s attended to. Garcia tries to get to MJF through the crowd, but he can’t. Wait, yes he can. Garcia dispatches of a bunch of different security guards and he finally gets to MJF, but MJF cracks him in the head with a glass bottle!

MJF takes a seat next to Garcia, who’s unconscious. MJF thanks Garcia for waking up something in him that’s been dormant for far too long, and as a token of his gratitude, he’s going to send Garcia straight to paradise. And for that, you can thank him later. MJF then kisses the bloodied forehead of Garcia and licks the blood off.

Renee is here with The Conglomeration. Wait, here’s Will Ospreay, who’s an honorary member of The Conglomeration. Will wants to know if they have any words of wisdom.. and Mark Briscoe cuts yet another epic Mark Briscoe promo.

Match #1. AEW International Championship: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Kyle Fletcher w/ Don Callis

Both men trade finisher attempts early, and we reset. Leg lariat by Fletcher sends Okada to the floor, as Fletcher follows up with an elbow suicida. Fletcher sends Okada into the barricade and gets a two count back inside the ring. Okada reverses Fletcher and dropkicks him right in the face. Elbow in the corner by Okada and a neckbreaker. One count. Air Raid Crash neckbreaker by Okada. Body slam and a diving elbow drop off the top by Okada. RAINMAKAHHHH.. wait, nah, middle finger instead. Fletcher counters a Rainmaker with a Michinoku Driver! Two count. Okada rolls to the outside and Fletcher follows, only to get DDT’d on the floor. Okada brings Fletcher to the apron and looks for a tombstone, but Fletcher slips out and superkicks Okada. Brainbuster on the apron by Fletcher! Both guys are down and out but eventually roll back inside the ring, and trade heavy elbows. Okada ducks a clothesline and locks in the Money Clip! I don’t know that we’ve seen that yet. Fletcher arm drags his way out and connects with a pair of superkicks. Both guys head up top now as Fletcher fights Okada off, but Okada lands on his feet and dropkicks Fletcher to the floor! Okada follows and dumps Fletcher into the front row. Okada pulls Fletcher over the barricade and looks for a draping DDT, but Fletcher reverses and brainbusters Okada ON THE GUARDRAIL! Fletcher sets up a chair and cannonballs into Okada, celebrating with the fans before he rolls Okada back in the ring. Elbow drop off the top by Fletcher and now Fletcher calls for the Rainmaker! Running leg lariat in the back of the neck by Okada. Fletcher wants a tombstone but Okada slides out the back, holds the wrist, and connects with the Rainmaker! Okada looks for a second but Fletcher escapes, only to get dropkicked. Half-and-half suplex by Fletcher! Spinning tombstone by Fletcher! Two count. Fletcher heads up top but Okada pulls the referee in front of him and Fletcher comes down from the top rope. Okada goes behind the referee’s back and low blows Fletcher before hitting the Rainmaker. That’ll do it.

Winner and STILL AEW World Heavyweight Champion: Kazuchika Okada

Rating: ***3/4. Excellent match to kick off the show, and a good win for Okada. Fletcher had some momentum after beating Ishii, and this didn’t hurt him in the least. Fletcher has really found himself on the business end of some of the top AEW matches of the year, too.

Konosuke Takeshita is here to confront Okada, who will be wrestling Mortos on this Saturday’s Collision.

Swerve was able to use the money from his new contract to buy his childhood home, along with Prince Nana.

Match #2. Jamie Hayter vs. Robyn Renegade

Shoulder block by Hayter but a shotgun dropkick by Renegade. Lariat by Hayter! Hayter misses a charge in the corner and Renegade connects with a pair of knees. Twice. Hayter is back with a big boot. Renegade with a pair of boots to Hayter and she tries to come off the top with a crossbody, but Hayter counters with a big powerslam. Haytebreaker. Two. Three. Hayterade finishes this one.

Winner: Jamie Hayter

Rating: NR. Simple and effective.

Roderick Strong is in the back with Christopher Daniels and Renee. Strong says his foot was on the rope last week and Daniels agrees, so Hook is here to offer him a rematch… tonight. Strong accepts… but not tonight.

Excalibur is running down tonight’s show as Jon Moxley and Marina Shafir are in the back, dispatching of security guards. Here’s The Elite. Moxley says he doesn’t care what they say, Perry is a sweet kid.

Moxley wants to know if Darby Allin is here… probably not. Three years ago Moxley beat the heck out of Darby for twenty minutes and he wanted more. Moxley says Darby plays the game the right way, with reckless abandon, and a passion for pro wrestling. Moxley just wants to talk… he’s a patient man, but he’ll apply pressure if he has to.

The Learning Tree is here with Renee. Jericho reminds us that Cassidy ruined his $7,000 jacket four years ago when he drenched him in Orange Juice. Jericho wants that $7,000 back, and Bryan Keith is going to squeeze it out of him on Friday night. Cassidy is here, and he says to tell Chris Jericho that if Keith beats him, he’ll give him the money. All the while, Jericho is standing right there. Hilarious.

Match #3. AEW Women’s World Championship: Mariah May (c) vs. Nyla Rose

May slaps Nyla in the face in the middle of the ring, trying to get Nyla mad. Nyla looks for a DVD but May escapes.. but gets cross body blocked. Body slam by Nyla and a leg drop for two. Nyla sets May up on the top rope, but May fights out and comes off the top rope with a diving dropkick. May with a running European uppercut in the corner as we go to commercial. May jumps a guillotine choke with full guard but Nyla holds on and runs her into the turnbuckles. Running dropkick to the face by May only gets a one count. Both women look for a headbutt and everyone is down. Slugfest now but May follows up with a big elbow in the corner. German suplex by Nyla and a big clothesline gets two. Nyla looks for the Beast Bomb but May fights out. Crossbody off the middle by May but Nyla catches her and hits the World’s Strongest Slam. May rolls to the outside and carries on an awkward conversation with referee Aubrey Edwards. May then trips out Nyla’s knees on the steps and delivers a running knee to the face. Rose makes it in by the ten count but eats a big knee to the face and Storm Zero finishes this one.

Winner and STILL AEW Women’s World Champion: Mariah May

Rating: **1/4. This one felt a little all over the place, but May did get a win over a former champion. Nobody thought Nyla was going to win this one, which may have taken away from this a bit.

Deonna Purrazzo looks like mob boss in a new video package, and every artist goes through stages. Purazzo has only just begun.

Mercedes Mone is here with Kamille. Mercedes wants to know how Hikaru Shida can call herself the Ace, when she isn’t even the face. Mercedes is “Two Belts Mone” and she’s the face of the whole damn company. Shida will learn this weekend that there’s a price to pay, when you mess, with Mone. Shida is shown on the tron and says that she was one Kitana away from being champion. Christopher Daniels joins Shida and Kamille is barred from ringside on Saturday.

The Elite are here. Three years ago, Jack Perry was in the ring when Danielson stepped foot in AEW. Perry was at home when he heard the news that Danielson’s career maybe coming to an end, so he changed the person he was and did everything he had to do to get back here. The only thing Danielson cares about is his fairytale ending, and it won’t be a happy ending on Sunday. The Bucks say they will do anything to make sure that the AEW World Heavyweight Championship comes back to The Elite.

Match #4. AEW World Trios Championship: Blackpool Combat Club (c) vs. The Conglomeration

Bryan Danielson has joined the commentary table and here we go, as Kyle and Yuta square off. Both men trade wrist locks as Kyle grabs a hammer lock, only to be reversed. Back body drop by Kyle and a straight armbar, as Kyle transitions side to side. Yuta escapes but Kyle grabs a Thai clinch and delivers some knees. Kitchen sink by Kyle and a dropkick by Cassidy, who’s now legal. Yuta and Cassidy trade elbows until Yuta traps the arm and hits an Angle Slam. Pac gets the tag and tosses Yuta into his corner and calls in Ospreay. Here we go! The crowd erupts to their feet and here we go. I can’t even follow the sequence these two men had but it ends with a dropkick by Pac and now all six men are in the ring. Cooler heads prevail as the Conglomeration make quick tags and focus on the arm of Yuta. Claudio gets the tag and hammer throws Cassidy into the corner, but he runs up top and comes off with a crossbody block… which gets caught by Claudio into a backbreaker! Cassidy now in the BCC corner as we go to commercial. Vertical suplex by Yuta now, following up with a German suplex. Cassidy comes off top to Pac, who’s now legal, but once again gets caught with a Northern Light’s suplex. Brutalizer by Pac but Ospreay breaks up the pin. The BCC are in now and here we go! Claudio tosses Ospreay to the outside and into the LED board. Cassidy crawls to his corner to make the tag but his partners are down and out. Fastball Special by BCC gets two, as Kyle makes the save. Claudio lays into Kyle on the outside, as Cassidy is in trouble in the BCC corner. Cassidy sends Claudio to the floor and crawls over Yuta, and under Pac. Ospreay gets the tag! Pac bails but Yuta gets back body dropped. Corkscrew kick to Yuta and a hurricanrana to Claudio. Pac is here and he gets double-teamed by Kyle and Ospreay. Running elbows in the corner and Opreay hits a Phoenix Splash off of Kyle’s back. Cassidy is here and… drops a lazy elbow off Kyle’s back. Claudio has seen enough and pulls Kyle outside, dropping him throat-first on the guardrail. Jawbreaker by Pac on Cassidy back inside the ring but Cassidy counters a suplex with Stundog Millionaire. Cassidy tries it on Claudio but he gets swung by his throat, instead. Claudio hits the ropes and clotheslines Cassidy, but Kyle breaks up the pin. Rebound drop step German by Yuta to Kyle, but a pump kick by Ospreay. Over the top cutter by Pac! Satellite DDT by Cassidy. Deadlift stalling vertical suplex by Claudio into a Jackhammer! Two count. Around the world tieres sends Claudio to the outside and Cassidy follows with a suicide dive. Yuta is here with one to take out Cassidy. Flying knee off the apron by Kyle. Corkscrew plancha by Pac. Plancha by Ospreay. Ospreay and Pac not fight up the stage, but Yuta interrupts and catches a hook kick to the face. Ospreay thinks of Hidden Blade but Pac wants the Poisonrana again. Ospreay counters and dives off the stage with a front flip. Diving DDT off the top by Cassidy to Claudio back inside the ring. Stundog Millionaire into Axe and Smash by Kyle! Beach Break by Cassidy! One, two, no! Kyle gets the tag and delivers some roundhouse kicks, as does Cassidy. Cassidy wants the Orange Punch but Yuta pulls him outside. Kyle jumps on a guillotine choke on Claudio! Claudio powers up and slams him but Kyle holds on. Claudio tries to run Kyle into the turnbuckles but Kyle won’t let go. Claudio somehow pops Kyle up right into a European uppercut. Giant Swing by Claudio and Yuta is here with the dropkick. One, two, three!

Winners: The Blackpool Combat Club

Rating: ****1/4. Yep, exactly what you’d expect, as usual. This one ruled and everyone in this match ruled, too. Both factions are untouchable and continually deliver in any spot they’re put in. The match served as a teaser and helped build up the PPV this weekend, nicely.

The Elite attack the BCC after the match. The Bucks pulls Danielson’s arms apart and Perry is here with a chair, but Claudio makes the save. Yuta is up too and Danielson said he’s going to kick his effin head in! The Bucks pull Perry to safety, however. Claudio grabs the mic and says The Elite have made the biggest mistake of their life, as the fans chant you effed up. Claudio says he’s collecting gold, and he doesn’t have anything to do at All Out. Neither does Yuta. How about a title shot? Danielson says many people have been frustrated with Jack Perry, but this Sunday, at All Out, Jack Perry… “YOU’RE GONNA GET YOUR F**** HEAD KICKED IN!”

In the back, Pac brainbusters Ospreay on those steel cases!

Tony Schiavone is in the ring and he welcomes Prince Nana and Swerve Strickland! Swerve and Nana are waiting in the ring but Hangman is nowhere to be found.

Uh oh, Hangman is on the tron, and he’s in front of that house that Swerve bought today. Swerve messed up, and he showed the world something important to him. Hangman can see it now, Swerve’s mom running across the dirty floor to fix them dinner. Dad telling the kids to shut up. Hangman thinks Swerve’s dad regrets having him, and what a wonderful world it would have been, had he never been born. Hangman is pouring gasoline all over the house, by the way. Hangman reiterates what Swerve said last week, when Hangman must make a choice between hates and success… vengeance and peace. Hangman says it’s not much of a choice at all, as there’s nothing that he wants more than to burn Swerve’s world to the ground. If Hangman couldn’t be the one to take the title, he was happy to help it slip. Hangman will take whatever is left this weekend, begging for mercy. Hangman says say goodbye to the championship, this Saturday he will say goodbye to his health, career, joy, and happiness.

Tonight, however, Swerve gets to say goodbye to Swerve’s house. Hangman lights the flame and Swerve’s house burns to the ground!

Final Thoughts: Lots of moving parts to tonight’s show, but what was good… was really good. BCC and Conglomeration absolutely ruled, and helped set up a lot for All Out. The Mercedes Mone stuff just… isn’t working, at least for me. Okada and Fletcher was awesome, too, and it’ll be interesting to see who Okada faces on Saturday, too. It does just feel like All Out was an afterthought until last week, which it was, and now they’re trying to scramble and tell a bunch of stores in ten days. The main event got a big boost and Hangman has officially lost it, so expect an absolute war on Saturday. That said, tonight’s show was entertaining and had some good wrestling, so I won’t be complaining. 8/10.
