All Fortnite Tournaments Going Region Free from Now On

on

Fortnite tournaments are a wide array of events. There are small tournaments all the way through to the FNCS, a huge event happening only once a season. In the past, these tournaments have been largely limited to what region you’re in, which could lock some players out from certain competitions. That’s being done away with in Chapter 5 Season 3. The Fortnite tournaments are region free from here on out.

What exactly does this mean? For a lot of competitors, it won’t matter too much. If you just play Cash Cups on your home base server, then the tournament experience should stay the same. For the FNCS, things won’t be changing at all. For smaller Fortnite esports tournaments though, players can now engage in a much wider field of events.

Fortnite Tournaments Will be Region Free

For the last few years, Fortnite tournaments have come in all sizes and shapes. However, they’ve been limited to whatever region you’re currently in. In normal Fortnite games, it’s simple to change regions. You just head to your Fortnite settings and move your region over. It won’t play as well as being in your closest, but you can play with other players from different areas of the world.

That never worked for tournaments in the past. However, Epic has announced they’re making Fortnite tournaments region free. In the future, players will be able to change their region in tournaments to jump into whatever region’s events they want. This won’t work in the FNCS though.

That tournament is still strictly region locked. With slots at the Grand Royale and prize money different from region to region, it makes sense to keep this one separated. The other cups are going to be open to anyone though.

Something to keep in mind with the tournaments going region free is lag. If you’re competing on a server further away from you, you’ll have worse ping. In a tournament environment this is going to make things a lot more difficult. Playing on different servers could be a fun change of pace, but it likely won’t make it easier for those switching things up.
