Ben Shelton reveals his main weapons on grass

One tennis player in particular failed to meet expectations on grass in the weeks leading up to Wimbledon: Ben Shelton. The American seems to possess all the characteristics capable of making a player dangerous on this surface, starting with a service able to leave his opponents stationary.

Yet the results are not on your side. Shelton only won three of the nine games played on grass and this year, the road map shows a 1-3 loss. Both in Stuttgart and at the Queen’s tournament, they lost to James Duckworth and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard respectively in three and two sets.

In Mallorca came a clear victory against Rinky Hijikata before surrendering to Paul Jubb, number 289 of the world at the time of the match.

“The first clear memory I have is probably the 2019 final between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. The first time I paid enough attention to a game that ended in the fifth set. When I was younger, I wasn’t so interested in watching tennis.

Those are the games I saw. Obviously he played at a very high level that week, it was great to see him and talk to him about it. There are many things to learn about grass. I started playing on this surface late in my tennis development.

There are many things to learn related to movement, style of play; things I’m learning day by day. It is a surface where I could do very well and achieve great successes, but I have not yet done anything”.

Ben Shelton, the American tennis prodigy surprised everyone by unveiling his position for the Paris Olympics this season. Apparently, the American ace doesn’t really intend to represent his country because it would affect his chances at the US Open: “The schedule is complicated this year.”
