Bernhard Langer expects emotional moments after his final European Tour appearance

on

Bernhard Langer, a golf legend, will close the final chapters of his career with an appearance at the DP World Tour this week, as he competes in the BMW International Open in Germany. Langer, a 66-year-old from Augsburg, began his professional career back in 1972, long before the parents of some well-known golfers today were born.

He has enjoyed tremendous success throughout his career, securing an impressive 42 victories on the European Tour, making him the second most successful golfer in its history. Ahead of him is only Seve Ballesteros, who celebrated 50 victories on the European Tour.

Langer, a Hall of Famer, holds the record for the most victories on the PGA Tour Champions with 46 wins and has also achieved three victories on the PGA Tour. Due to persistent injury issues and recent surgeries, he will retire after an incredible 52-year career.

Interestingly, this tournament is being held not far from his home, about 60 kilometers away.

Speaking to the media, Langer reflected on his final appearance, particularly pleased to compete in front of a home crowd. He remains cautious about the golf course, which has become longer over the years, but Langer has always relished such challenges throughout his illustrious career.

“It means a great deal, just to play in front of the home crowd. And hopefully I can make the cut, but I hear the golf course is a lot longer than it used to be, and that’s a challenge for me. I’m getting shorter, and the course is getting longer and that’s not a good combination.“- Langer said, as quoted by Golf Monthly.

Bernhard Langer confirmed the nearness of the golf course to his home, noting his many friends at the Munich Country Club. He believes this will be a fantastic experience that he will hardly ever forget. He also hasn’t overlooked the emotional component that will surely be present both among fans and within himself. With his departure, a chapter in golf closes, which certainly saddens fans, especially in Europe. Langer was a dominant figure in the golf scene during the prime of his career.

“I grew up about 45 minutes from here. I worked as an Assistant professional 30 minutes from here at Munich Country Club. I have a lot of friends, some relatives and just people that have been with me, supported me for many, many years in the game of golf, and obviously I’ve played this tournament many times.

I’ve never said goodbye to anything so far in terms of golf. This is going to be a first experience and I have a feeling it’s going to be very emotional.”- the German continued.

Marcel Siem and Bernard Langer will play together

Bernhard Langer will also have a partner in the first two days, Marcel Siem, another German golfer. Siem, a 43-year-old golfer and a well-known name in the world of golf, especially in Europe, is happy to collaborate with a golf legend like Langer. The successes Langer has achieved on the golf scene are the main reason Siem is excited about the experience of playing with him.

The 43-year-old golfer emphasized that Langer’s achievements in golf are exceptional. He stresses that achieving what the 66-year-old has done is extremely difficult. Furthermore, Siem did not forget to mention Langer’s personal qualities, considering him a role model for everyone.

There are many aspects of this Hall of Famer that Siem respects, striving to follow his example and achieve at least a fraction of his success.

Siem recently stated that he has never felt better in his career, ready to secure a spot on the Ryder Cup team next year. Siem has shown himself to be a golfer of top quality and hopes that his results in the coming period will be outstanding.

The experienced German admitted that in the upcoming events he wants to perform as well as possible, securing a spot in the top 50. In this way, he will earn a place on the Ryder Cup team and also play in the Masters, which is also his great desire. Known for his partying and nightlife, the experienced golfer acknowledges that such a lifestyle is not what he wants to live again. He prefers to focus on golf, progress, and strive for the top.

Siem has made several changes, primarily focusing on his diet and playing style. To become successful, it is sometimes necessary to make adjustments. The 43-year-old has realized it’s time to get serious and show the world what kind of golfer he truly is.

We will see how much he can do together with Langer. We have no doubt that he can really make a positive result.
