There is a bit of a contract dispute developing between the Denver Broncos and Courtland Sutton. Will they work things out before Week 1?

The Denver Broncos have a decision to make on wide receiver Courtland Sutton. While Sutton noted that the two sides had reached a ‘stalemate’, there is still a long way to go until Week 1 of the regular season.

This after Sutton was told he is a big part of Sean Payton’s plans for the future of the offense.

“I hope so,” Sutton said earlier this month. “I hope that I am a part of the bigger picture. I’ve been told that is what the gameplan is. I’ve also been told some other things. We will see what happens. I hope I am able to be a part of the gameplan.”

He also attended mandatory minicamp, so things have not quite escalated to the point where things could get ugly.

Sutton is scheduled to make around $17 million this season if he plays every game, which is quite a health number for a wide receiver. However, the issue might come down to next season. Sutton will be 30 that season and entering the final year of his deal with no guarantees. Getting some kind of extension out of Denver now would help secure his financials into the late stages of his potential NFL career.

“The point had been made already,” Sutton said last week. “I’m hoping that we’re able to find a solution … because this is where I want to be, and I’m just hoping that it’s mutual.”

That raises another question, should Denver bring that kind of offer to the table? Is the feeling mutual on a longer-term commitment to Courtland Sutton? That’s the topic of this week’s SB Nation Reacts survey. I’ll share my thoughts on this and the results from this survey on Friday or Saturday.
