CHASE SEXTON INTERVIEW: “IT TOOK ME ABOUT SIXTEEN ROUNDS TO GET WHERE I NEEDED TO BE”

With a third at the Anaheim 1 Supercross opener and then a win the next weekend in San Fransico it appeared Chase Sexton was ready to repeat his 2023 AMA 450 Supercross championship. However, as Sexton continued learning and testing his new Red Bull KTM, they found areas to improve. He had many decent finishes, a few sub-par finishes, and then his devastating Nashville round where a bike issue caused him to dnf. Up until Nashville, he was still in the hunt to defend his 2023 championship.

While Chase may not feel great about his 2024 Supercross season, he can hold his head high after dominating the Salt Lake City Supercross finale. While anxious to celebrate Tom Vialle’s championship with the team, we were able to get a couple of questions in.

Chase Sexton had been building over the past couple of weekends and finally got the job done with a win in Salt Lake.

CHASE, YOU RODE AWESOME TONIGHT, HOW SATISFYING WAS IT TO TAKE THIS WIN AT THE SALT LAKE CITY SUPERCROSS FINALE? Yes, it feels great. Obviously, it was a little bittersweet seeing Jett win. It was just a little too late; it took me about sixteen rounds to get where I needed to be. But yes, tonight was good; I qualified fastest, won my heat, and then won the main. I feel like going outdoors that it’s going to be a tough fight, but I’m looking forward to that.

YOU HAVE SPOKEN A LOT ABOUT LEARNING YOUR KTM THIS SEASON, HAVE YOU ALSO LEARNED ANYTHING ABOUT YOURSELF? Yes, I learned a lot about myself. It’s been a very trying year with lots of ups and downs. There were more downs this year, but I never gave up believing. It didn’t work out the way we wanted, but it was cool to get another win. I needed to get this win for confidence going into next year. I’m very happy about my night in Salt Lake City.

With this, Chase is looking to carry the momentum into the first round of outdoors at Fox Raceway with just a one-weekend break.

MAYBE THIS IS A BY-PRODUCT OF DIALING IN YOUR BIKE, BUT TOWARDS THE END OF THE SERIES, IT APPEARED YOU HAD MORE AGGRESSION WHILE RACING. yes, that’s just me being comfortable. I’m able to really push harder, and that got me to where I am tonight.
