The weekend in the world of golf has been marked by the passing of double PGA Tour winner, Grayson Murray, who, as revealed by his parents, “took his own life.” The 30-year-old player had been through tough times in recent years and had recently spoken about his struggles with alcoholism and anxiety.

Sunday’s events were overshadowed by sadness across tournaments on various circuits. Specifically, in the United States, Murray was remembered by the winners of the Charles Schwab Challenge (PGA Tour event) and the Visit Knoxville Open (Korn Ferry Tour event), Davis Riley and Harry Higgs respectively.
In Riley’s case, who comfortably managed his lead and secured the tournament with a five-stroke advantage over Keegan Bradley and Scottie Scheffler, he was already dealing with a personal concern. The week before, his sister Caroline suffered seizures at work, and a subsequent scan revealed a tumor in her brain. She underwent immediate surgery. Fortunately, the operation was successful, and a biopsy showed that the tumor was benign. Until he received that news, Riley was considering withdrawing from the tournament. His parents spoke to him and told him that Caroline wanted him to play. Nevertheless, Riley remembered Grayson Murray after his victory: “My heart goes out to him and his family. Today we had something more to play for.”
On the other hand, Harry Higgs, who will soon return to the PGA Tour after winning his second consecutive playoff, admitted that he spent much of Saturday night awake thinking about how he could honor his colleague if he won. “I thought about this moment and how I might remember Grayson,” commented Higgs, who then made a ‘request.’
The golfer then made a request that was in line with what Murray’s parents had expressed in a statement: “While lying in bed, I thought that today [yesterday] I would throw the challenge to everyone present, and I will too: every day, you should say something nice to someone you love and also say something nice to someone you don’t even know. This can make a difference for a person, you can brighten someone’s day, and sometimes this means the world.” A commendable initiative by Harry Higgs.
