Drew McIntyre threatens to go Will Smith on Damian Priest

With Gunther’s King of the Ring victory, WWE has its World Heavyweight title scene set-up through SummerSlam. They spent some time on the May 27 episode of Raw teasing a showdown between King Gunther and the current champion Damian Priest, but the belt will definitely still be around Priest’s waist when he wrestles Drew McIntyre for it at Clash at the Castle in a couple of weeks, so the champ’s segment with Der Ring General was interrupted by McIntyre last night.

As he has been since the match was announced, one of McIntyre’s key talking points on Raw was the “home field advantage” he’ll have for the match, seeing as it’s taking place in his native Scotland.

[That would be John Cena walking into 2006’s ECW One Night Stand for his unsuccessful WWE title defense against Rob Van Dam as the most hated man in New York City — and probably all of pro wrestling.]

Priest mocked the big Scot, asking if “the fans are going to boo me” was the best trash talk Drew had for him. The champ then asked McIntyre if his wife was going to be on hand at the OVO Hydro on June 15. After being warned to choose his next words carefully under threat of violence, Priest said he was just trying to get under the challenger’s skin — and obviously succeeded.

Tensions might have ramped up even further had Braun Strowman not cut in to get to his match with Priest’s Judgment Day teammate JD McDonagh. But the issue was clearly still on Drew’s mind after the show.

[That would be Will Smith slapping Chris Rock on worldwide television at the 2022 Academy Awards and telling him to “keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth” after Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith.]

Not the most timely reference, but a solid one. Still, not McIntyre’s best work. Maybe he’s doing the same thing he accused Priest of last night: looking past his Clash at the Castle opponent and eyeing a bigger feud, which in Drew’s case would be with his regular trash talk dance partner, CM Punk.
