Five title matches now official for NXT Heatwave

Next weekend is a big one for WWE. The company will take over Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena for three night, culminating with Sun., July 7’s NXT Heatwave premium live event.

With only two episodes of television before that show, Shawn Michaels and team got busy booking (and tweaking) championship matches for their trip north of the border on the June 25 one.

The NXT title bout is now a 4way, and has a ton of moving parts. Je’Von Evans earned a shot at champion Trick Williams by winning a Battle Royal, but lost to Ethan Page in the same night. Page, meanwhile, is being hunted by Meta-Four’s Oro Mensah — now more than ever after Noam Dar claims Page “did a number on my leg, ripped the tendon right off the bone” in his leg. Last night, Shawn Spears got a win over Williams thanks to Brooks Jensen, who has been cut from the WWE roster in-story.

Like we said, it’s a lot. Enough that General Manager Ava booked a 4way main event for Toronto.

On the women’s side, hopes that joshi star Giulia could debut as Roxanne Perez’s Heatwave opponent seem to have failed to materialize. Lola Vice targeted Perez again last night, and even briefly took her belt after attacking the champ following her win over Karmen Petrovic. Ava booked their match while Roxanne got physical possession of her title back.

Wes Lee took care of business against Joe Coffey on Tuesday, and North American champ Oba Femi granted his request for a one-on-one championship match.

And Sol Ruca earned the right to challenge Women’s North American champ Kelani Jordan by beating Ariana Grace.

And Chase U won a Tag Team Turmoil match against Edris Enofé & Malik Blade and three main roster teams, so Duke Hudson & Ridge Holland will challenge Nathan Frazer & Axiom for the belts at Heatwave.

It leaves us with the following card for next Sunday:

• Trick Williams (c) vs. Ethan Page vs. Je’Von Evans vs. Shawn Spears for the NXT championship

• Roxanne Perez (c) vs. Lola Vice for the NXT Women’s title

• Nathan Frazer & Axiom (c) vs. Chase U (Andre Chase & Duke Hudson) for the NXT Tag Team championship

• Oba Femi (c) vs. Wes Lee for the NXT North American title

• Kelani Jordan (c) vs. Sol Ruca for the NXT Women’s North American championship

NXT PLEs have been six or seven match affairs of late, so we’d expect one or two additions to that line-up over the next week-and-a-half. But seems like a solid foundation, no?
