Your daily San Francisco 49ers news for Tuesday, June 4th, 2024

49ers expected to sign 10-year veteran tight end [report]

“The soon-to-be 33-year-old’s second-best season came last year, when he tallied 55 catches for 496 yards and 4 TDs in 16 games for one of the league’s worst teams.

The addition is substantial given that the 49ers’ tight end room around Kittle was composed of Saubert, the still-not-healthy Cam Latu, Brayden Willis, undrafted free agent Mason Pline, and Jake Tonges. Depth was needed, and now the 49ers have a player who, if healthy, (as has mostly been the case aside from 2021, when he tore his ACL), will be a very solid TE2.”

49ers’ minicamp schedule: Will Brandon Aiyuk or Christian McCaffrey attend?

“The San Francisco 49ers are set to conclude their offseason program with a two-day mandatory minicamp. Initially scheduled for June 4-6, the team plans to eliminate the final day of on-field work, as has been customary in recent years.”

How Jefferson’s record deal impacts 49ers’ negotiations with Aiyuk

“His 128 receptions for 1,809 yards led the league in 2022 along with his 106.4 yards per game and 13.9 average yards per touch. Aiyuk’s 83.9 yards per game ranked him ninth among pass-catchers in 2023 while his 17.9 yards per catch was ranked second behind Pittsburgh Steelers’ George Pickens (18.1).

While Aiyuk is set to receive the biggest payday of his career, it will not quite be at the $35-million-per-year average salary that Jefferson is set to make, and the 49ers still have an interesting task ahead in determining an acceptable compensation package for their top wide receiver.”

49ers sign Logan Thomas after striking out on tight ends in the draft (paywall)

“Meanwhile, Thomas has 219 career catches for 2,002 yards and 16 touchdowns. He had career-bests in catches (72), yards (670) and touchdowns (six) in 2020. Thomas missed 11 games in 2021 when he was sidelined by a hamstring injury before suffering a torn ACL. He also missed three games in 2022 with a calf injury. Last season, he played in 16 games, missing one game due to a concussion.

Thomas was a quarterback at Virginia Tech who has carved out a 94-game career after switching positions midway through his third NFL season.”
