In 2017, Grigor Dimitrov came one step closer to the Australian Open final. The Bulgarian was playing one of the best games in his career, but on the other side of the net was Rafael Nadal. Dimitrov gained with a splendid backhand two break balls on 4-3 and the Spaniard responded as a true champion canceling both with courage.

In the next game, he gave up the batting and lost the game. The 22-time Grand Slam champion was a hard defeat to swallow for Dimitrov who, in an interview with the New York Times, explained that it took seven or eight months to overcome it.

Grigor Dimitrov suffered heavily after losing to Rafael Nadal at the 2017 Australian Open: “It took me seven or eight months to beat Rafa. In the fifth set I had two break balls to climb 5-3 and I was playing incredibly well.

I absolutely couldn’t lose that game and I still lost. You try to leverage your experience and ask yourself questions. I’ve always believed that you need to talk to someone, whether it’s professionals, family or friends.”

During a press conference in Wimbledon, Grisha praised the great Roger Federer: “Roger was always able to take my time. I remember when I played against him here, that happened at every point. That makes you feel very uncomfortable on the track, forces you to go for punches that you shouldn’t play, takes you completely out of your game, ” explains Grigor at a press conference. ” When that happens, you’re in trouble with any player, but especially against him”.

The Bulgarian is playing very well this year, having also reached the final in the Miami Masters 1000 (lost to the world number 1 Jannik Sinner).
