GTA Online’s Next Big Update Lands June 25

on

GTA Online has been going strong for more than a decade. It has been Rockstar Games’ cash cow product for ten years, and while the likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 6 have been in development, GTA Online has remained a constant for gamers worldwide. Red Dead came and went and GTA 6 isn’t likely to arrive for at least another year, so for now, GTA Online is the best that it gets in the Rockstar Games stakes.

To that end, Rockstar recently lifted the lid on a new and sizeable update coming to GTA Online: Bottom Dollar Bounties. In a blurb, it was explained that players will be able to ‘run down all manner of reprobate scum and claim bounties’ in the Bottom Dollar Bounties update. It’s guaranteed to be a hit with RP fans, particularly those who focus on pretending that they’re police officers or soldiers.

GTA Online has spent a decade becoming the most valuable ‘game’ of all time, pulling in billions of dollars for Rockstar Games. It’s typically counted as an entirely separate product from GTA V, despite being bundled with the game since day one. It’s not like Red Dead Online, which can be bought and played independently of Red Dead Redemption 2.

In this latest update – or expansion – players are invited to join forces with the Bottom Dollar Bail Enforcement firm. They’ll become GTA’s answer to Dog the Bounty Hunter, linking up with Maude Eccles and chasing down bail skippers from all over the world map. Wrapped up in the update is a range of new vehicles that bounty hunters can use to chase down those trying to evade justice.

It’s a substantial update that promises to carry players through the summer to whatever comes next. At some point, Rockstar Games has to come to terms with the fact that GTA Online needs to be ‘wound down’ for whatever comes next. It’s almost written in the stars that GTA 6 will have a new Online offering, and if it’s anywhere close to GTA V’s multiplayer ecosystem, it too will become a billion-dollar product in no time.

Some eagle-eyed players have noticed that the new police vehicles featured in the Bottom Dollar Bounties update were also featured in the trailer for GTA 6. Could this be a testing ground of sorts for some GTA 6-based assets?
