HCS London: Final Four Teams Qualify for Championship Sunday

on

In London, the biggest teams in the Halo Championship Series are preparing to take to a grand stage. Following a tough few days of qualification, the last four teams that are left in the tournament are shaping up to walk away with their cut of the $250,000 prize. It has been a tumultuous tournament thus far, with the crowd having witnessed a disqualification and a desperate shutting down of the competition’s host, Quadrant.

Now, FaZe Clan, OpTic Gaming, Spacestation, and Shopify Rebellion are all that’s left in the running. Many teams attempted to get this far, but only four could ever make it to the championship Sunday. Unfortunately, no ‘underdog sides’ managed to break through to this stage of the tournament, and the four teams that are left behind could all be considered favourites to win the HCS London Major.

Preparing for the Final

Every team left on the board has had a stunning tournament thus far.

OpTic Gaming is always a fan-favourite prediction to lift the trophy, but a sketchy moment in the upper bracket saw the team lose 0 – 3 against FaZe Clan, plummeting into the lower run. Fortunately, the foursome of Lucid, Trippy, FormaL, and deadzone pulled off a sweep to knock Sentinels out and move forward, but it was a close thing. In the round before, OpTic performed a fantastic comeback against Proton – of all teams – but even so, some last-minute concerns were rankling in the crowd.

FaZe Clan remains the top-tier team and the most commonly predicted side to win the HCS London Major. Following a flawless run through the pools (mimicking OpTic, Rebellion, and SSG), FaZe Clan has stormed through the championship bracket, laying waste to Native and OpTic to walk into the upper bracket final against Rebellion. Last year, FaZe Clan won the HCS World Championship, but that was followed by a third-place finish at the Arlington Major, so there’s ground left to cover for the squad.

Elsewhere, SSG and Shopify Rebellion are looking strong. At this point, it’s hard to predict where this foursome of fearsome squads will end up – the odds could go either way at this point. The HCS London Major is unfolding historically, and if we overlook Complexity’s disqualification, it has been a perfect event thus far.
