Her lawyer reveals the truth about Camila Giorgi’s tax evasion

Camila Giorgi’s lawyer Cristian Carmelo Nicotra shared new revelations about the mysterious retirement of the Italian tennis player, explaining that there could be issues to resolve with the Revenue Agency, but that the now former player was acquitted by the prosecutor’s office. No escape abroad or attempt to escape problems, he told. In the meantime, however, the Revenue Agency itself has presented a writ of seizure against third parties to the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation: Camila Giorgi owes €464,000 to the tax authorities for unpaid taxes.

“She was acquitted by the Prato prosecutor’s office for failing to declare a few thousand euros relating to 2013 and 2014. She had moved abroad but had not changed her tax residence. In total there were around 11 thousand euros and 32 thousand another year, a sum however less than 50 thousand euros, so he would have to pay the undeclared amounts, but it is not a crime.

She was acquitted with a decree read on 14 December 2023 at the Prato prosecutor’s office. The deadline for filing the ruling expired on March 13 but it has not yet been filed. It is possible that investigations are also underway for failure to declare her in the following years until 2016 when she returned to Italy but this is a matter of little importance.
She retired because she was tired,” told Camila’s lawyer to the Italian newspaper La Stampa.

Giorgi, for her part, labeled these news as fake by writing to her fans on Instagram. “I kindly ask you to follow my Instagram page for truthful information, because so far only FAKE articles are coming out. To my beloved fans. I am happy to formally announce my retirement from my tennis career,” she wrote.
