WWE’s summer blockbuster storyline, filled with love, betrayal, and championship gold, promises a dramatic payoff.
Liv Morgan may want to consider changing her name to MC Luscious following a steamy ending to this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw.
After successfully retaining her Women’s World Championship with another unintentional assist from Rhea Ripley’s Dominik Mysterio, Morgan took things to a whole new level. With lust in her eyes, she pulled Dom Dom in and planted a deep, sultry kiss on his lips, leaving no doubt about her intentions. It was a scene straight out of a scandalous romance novel, as Morgan’s passionate lip-lock sent a clear, provocative message to the injured Ripley.
“Boom, I got your boyfriend, I got your man.”
And so the stage is set for WWE’s next bizarre love triangle and arguably its best since Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan fought over Miss Elizabeth. What began as a redemption tour for Morgan may soon turn into a bitter dispute as Morgan and Ripley become a modern-day Monica and Brandy as they fight to prove that “the boy is mine.”
Musical puns aside, the storyline between Morgan, Mysterio, and Ripley could be this summer’s blockbuster hit, overshadowing The Bloodline and whatever Cody Rhodes might have going on. In the process, each of these three characters may reach new heights while impacting other existing storylines, most notably Judgment Day.
Since Ripley was sidelined with a shoulder injury in April, the gothic stable has lost its direction. Around that time, Damian Priest made it clear that he wanted to prove himself as a worthy world champion, preferring Judgment Day to stay out of his affairs. On Raw this week, Mysterio was chastised by Finn Bálor and JD McDonagh for allegedly trying to make amends with Mami by helping Becky Lynch steal the title back from Morgan.
But long before this, it seemed “Dirty” Dom was losing Ripley’s support. After losing the NXT North American Championship, Ripley began appearing less frequently with Mysterio. Like any mother, Mami seemed content to let Dom stand on his own. However, he faltered and quickly avoided questions about their relationship when pressed.
Now, as Judgment Day collapses, Liv Morgan is poised to skip through its debris, likely with Dominik Mysterio by her side, as she dominates the women’s division. Unlike her initial stint as champion, which was universally panned, this reign would benefit from Mysterio’s assistance as they cheat their way through title defenses. Morgan, now flaunting her role as the villainous vixen who stole Ripley’s title and man, gains a new depth that could see her overcome Ripley in their initial encounters.
Such an alliance would also benefit Mysterio, whose heat with fans has cooled off. With Judgment Day crumbling and Mysterio sidelined by injury, aligning with Morgan would remind fans of his treacherous past, which includes betraying his father and accosting his mother and sister, reigniting his notoriety as a despicable scumbag. Together, Morgan and Mysterio could become wrestling’s most detested power couple.
And that would be the best thing for Rhea Ripley, who’s poised to be WWE’s next main attraction.
Since clinching championship gold from Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 39, Rhea Ripley has reached near rock star status among WWE fans, arguably surpassing her fellow Judgment Day members in popularity. Many already view her as the group’s de facto leader. However, her injury-induced absence, inflicted by Liv Morgan, has led to the stable’s gradual unraveling within the storyline.
With Ripley sidelined and forced to forfeit her title, many assumed Morgan would win the belt, only to drop it to Ripley upon her return. But now the intrigue has deepened with Morgan tempting Mysterio. Thus, the big money lies in having Ripley’s Dom Dom betray her, siding with Morgan as she retains her title.
Such a scenario sets Ripley on a quest for revenge that, if executed well, could culminate at WrestleMania in 2025. There, Ripley’s popularity could explode by defeating the woman who wronged her while laying the groundwork for what’s sure to become a highly anticipated confrontation: Ripley getting her hands on Mysterio, fulfilling the fantasy of anyone done dirty by an ex.
And when she’s done, maybe Dom will think next time before he cheats.
