The latest in the series is one that says Rory McIlroy used a private investigator to serve Erica Stoll divorce papers.
According to the headlines in the Belfast Telegraph, McIlroy used the weekend break to escape from the headlines and golf, but the primary reason seems to be his friend’s wedding.
Things went so far that McIlroy’s private plane was tracked, and he was reportedly in Italy for the wedding.
Rory McIlroy spoke about his career and future a few days ago at a press conference, but when asked about the divorce, the Northern Irishman declined to comment, intending to keep his private life separate from his professional one. The 35-year-old golfer admitted that his focus is on the future and tournaments, not wanting to delve into details regarding Erica or anything from his private life.
The proceedings were initiated in the Palm Beach County Court by Thomas Sasser. McIlroy chose a lawyer who also represented a golf legend, Tiger Woods, when he also went through the same divorce process with his former wife. Carl Woods served Erica with the summons.
According to reports from BT, Carl Woods received divorce papers on May 13th from Sasser’s firm, which were also personally delivered to Stoll at their home a few minutes later. The summons also states that Stoll has twenty days to respond to her husband’s petition.

McIlroy’s wife finds herself in a peculiar situation and will need to send a response as soon as possible to try to win this case. Furthermore, she has been clearly informed that there are further procedures involving an attorney, whom she can call or not.

McIlroy, as we’ve already mentioned, is quietly observing the situation, unwilling to provide any details regarding their divorce. McIlroy is in good form, considering his victory at the Wells Fargo Championship. His intentions, however, are to win a Major in the near future, given that it’s been a while since his last Major trophy. His next challenge will be the RBC Canadian Open, where he will be one of the main favorites alongside a few others.
Rory intends to continue his amazing form and prepare himself in a great way for the Majors. We’ll see if the 35-year-old will change his principles and potentially reveal some details about his marriage.
