Redfall Is Getting One Last Update Before Arkane Austin Closes Down

on

It was recently revealed that four Microsoft-backed studios would be closing down – or have already been shut down. One of these studios is Arkane Austin, the office that most recently created Redfall, the beleaguered and troubled open-world vampire-slaying title that launched in May 2023. As Arkane Studios prepares to shut down operations forever, one final update is being rolled out for Redfall, which has dwindled to the point of having almost no players whatsoever.

One of the biggest concerns was that Redfall, an online-only game, would disappear into a great abyss with the shutdown of Arkane Austin. This impending update addresses that concern – and more.

It Won’t Be Lost

Redfall wasn’t bad. There, I said it. I poured around sixty hours into Redfall and completed everything that the game has to offer, and while I acknowledge it won’t win any awards, I had a great time playing it. I enjoyed the cooperative offering, I scooped up every achievement, and I explored every corner of the sizeable map. I’d picked it up through the Game Pass subscription service, so it didn’t cost me anything in the long run, which I consider a great success.

In the most recent sweep of studios being shut down, Microsoft laid waste to four offices, including Arkane Austin. It was just announced that one last update will be applied to Redfall, and above all else, it’ll introduce an offline mode.

That’s a monumental change for anyone still playing Redfall, as it means that when the game’s servers are inevitably taken offline forever, it’ll still be playable – eradicating the requirement to stay online all the time. Elsewhere, changes are being introduced to allow users to pause the game without fear of being attacked, and the neighbourhood and ‘Nest’ systems in the game are being revamped (no pun intended).

This news was announced in a recent post on social media as an outpouring of support took place for Arkane Austin. Redfall might have been a commercial failure and it may have become a laughing stock when it was released, but nobody likes to see studios closed down and industry workers laid off.
