Rumor Roundup: Mercedes Mone/Shane McMahon, Royal Rumble, Daniel Garcia, more!

Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Rumors for the Day:

• Multiple sources told PW Insider that Mercedes Mone and Shane McMahon talked at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Sunday morning. The meeting sounded coincidental (“each were seen speaking on their way to their respective flights”), but one source said they did talk about AEW.
• Mone confirmed the story in her official newsletter, where she also said Shane gave her his number before boarding his flight. Mercedes closed out her account with “the rest as they say is history or maybe a mystery!”
• PW Insider also heard that Mone went into her Forbidden Door match with the “express goal” of “making” Stephanie Vaquer and getting the CMLL star over with the live crowd.
• While specifying that he hasn’t heard WWE will make Royal Rumble a two-night event, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp’s sources at the company told him that “obviously” the Rumble “is constructed to where it could be two nights”.
• Fightful Select reported that Daniel Garcia’s AEW contract is believed to expire this fall, but internally they expect he’ll be with the company for a long time to come. At least person believes Garcia’s already re-signed, and several people close to him said “his future would likely come into focus soon”.
• On July 3, WWE filed to trademark “SuperBrawl” as an event name.
