Former Miami Dolphins center Connor Williams is expected to sign with a team in the near future.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that free agent center Connor Williams plans to sign with a team before training camp and expects to be on the field for Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season. He surrendered just four sacks over two seasons at center with the Miami Dolphins but suffered a season-ending ACL injury on Dec. 12.

Williams, 27, allowed just one sack in 497 snaps and was considered one of the league’s top centers before the injury. He spent his first four seasons at guard with the Dallas Cowboys but shuffled to center after signing a two-year contract with the Dolphins in 2022.

The Dolphins have about $16 million in available cap space (before adding Calais Campbell to the mix) but also signed former Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Aaron Brewer to start at center once free agency began.

With a successful track record at guard and center, a healthy Williams will push for a starting job wherever he lands. He should draw attention from multiple teams now that a timeline for his return is known.
