Taylor Fritz rips ATP schedule with very hard words

“We play way too much. I’ve always said this. The season should be much shorter. For me it’s not just a question of injuries. We travel way too much, more than ten months a year, and if we don’t travel we train to prepare for the next tournament. From 18 to 30 our lives revolve around tennis.”

There is no peace for the choices made by ATP: criticism comes from all sides, especially regarding the new format of the ATP Masters 1000. One of the latest criticisms came from Taylor Fritz, as reported by Sky Sport, who explained how tennis players play too much, putting their health at risk.

“Going out and having fun doesn’t exist for us, while in other sports all this is possible, because there are break periods. Athletes from other disciplines can go on holiday. I have the impression that only we play too much and get injured often, but that we don’t have a life off the court. At this age it would be nice to have other interests,” told the American tennis player at the Italian Internationals, after beating Grigor Dimitrov at the end of a tough battle.

The American then challenged the German Alexander Zverev on the Central Court of the Foro Italico, losing in straight sets and being eliminated. But, again at the press conference, Fritz reflected on a very important aspect for his career and ranking.

“I know well that in the generations preceding mine, several of my countrymen played little on these courts. However, on clay there are 3 ATP Masters 1000 and a Slam: how could I become a top player if I don’t produce good results on clay? If I want to return to the top 10, I have to play well here. The goal will be to arrive in Paris a little earlier to adapt to the playing conditions. There would also be the option of playing a tournament before the Olympics, but I don’t think I will use it,” he explained
