Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

2024 NFL offseason: Grading moves, changes for all 32 teams – ESPN+
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES: A. The Eagles’ 2023 season ended with a whimper and future Hall of Fame center Jason Kelce retired, but their 2024 offseason set them up to be Super Bowl contenders once again. The team turned its offense and defense over to coordinators Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio, respectively, who both appear to be upgrades. That’s critical because the roster is still really good. Philadelphia engineered a pass-rusher swap of sorts with the Jets, signing Huff in free agency, then dealing Reddick back to New York. Philadelphia came out ahead. Even though Reddick is the more proven pass-rusher, Huff’s metrics — he ranked eighth in pass rush win rate at edge in 2023, one spot behind Reddick — suggest he’s a similar player (and four years younger). The Eagles also got a conditional third-round pick (which could become a second). Toss in defensive end Josh Sweat and defensive tackle Jalen Carter, and this team will be able to get after the quarterback. The secondary was a weakness, but they threw resources at it, drafting cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean and bringing back safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson. And they still have corners Darius Slay and James Bradberry, who could easily bounce back. I wouldn’t have paid Barkley real money like they did ($26 million fully guaranteed), but he should be an upgrade at running back, adding to the team’s plethora of skill position riches along with Brown, Smith and tight end Dallas Goedert. [BLG Note: The Eagles were the only team to receive an “A.” Four teams got an “A-” and all the others were lower. The Dallas Cowboys got a “D+” grade.]

Eagles Film Review: Dylan McMahon is a perfect scheme fit – BGN
So … McMahon is a very athletic center who excels in space but fell in the draft because he’s undersized and doesn’t have the strength to move defensive tackles in the run game or anchor against stronger defensive tackles in pass protection. Does that scouting report remind you of someone?

A look at the Eagles’ players over 30, and their succession plan for each – PhillyVoice
Edge Brandon Graham (36): Graham will be playing in his 15th NFL season in 2024, which he said will be his last. He played in every game in 2023, but only played 395 regular season snaps. His snap count will likely land somewhere in that area again in 2024, if he stays healthy. The Eagles more or less swapped out Haason Reddick for Bryce Huff this offseason, and got Josh Sweat to take a pay cut after putting him on the trade block. They also drafted Nolan Smith in the first round of the 2023 draft, and Jalyx Hunt in the third round of the 2024 draft. Smith barely played as a rookie, and Hunt is unlikely to play much as a rookie this season. Reddick, Sweat, and Graham combined for 38 sacks in 2022, plus another 6 in the playoffs. Reddick is already gone, Graham will be gone next year, and Sweat might not be around next year either. The succession plan, for now, is Huff, Smith, and Hunt. Huff is the most accomplished of the three after having a breakout season in 2023, but even he is a work in progress as he’ll have to improve against the run to be a more reliable three-down player. The succession plan on the edge is shaky, and it’s a pretty good bet edge rusher will be a high priority next offseason in the draft and/or free agency.

Clustering all 32 NFL defenses from the 2023 season – PFF
Philadelphia Eagles: The Eagles’ pass-rush and run-defense units were solid in 2023, ranking seventh and fourth, respectively. Despite this, they allowed one of the worst EPA per play figures on run defense (0.003). They also struggled in coverage, placing 23rd in PFF grade (72.5). Philadelphia also surrendered a high first-down conversion rate of 30.5%, ranking 29th.

Rodney McLeod’s Eagles days are over, but his Sneaker Ball shows his Philly ties remain strong – Inquirer
Rodney McLeod is a Cleveland Brown, but he still calls Philadelphia home. He and his wife, Erika, live in the Old City home they bought in 2020 when he’s out of season, though it’s been almost three years since McLeod last put on an Eagles jersey. This season will his 13th and final in the NFL, he announced in May. McLeod spent six of those seasons here and continues to remain connected to the Philly community, though he’s lived and played in Indianapolis and Cleveland the last two years. He’s the cofounder of the Change Our Future Foundation with his wife, which aims to empower the youth through education, awareness, and advocacy.

3 players that the Cowboys could trade before final cuts – Blogging The Boys
Trey Lance is an enticing mystery. Traded to the Cowboys last year in exchange for a fourth-round pick, it still needs to be determined what Dallas has on their hands. Taken with the third overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2021, Lance struggled with performance before getting injured and relinquished his starting job to Brock Purdy. With Dallas, Lance is is still working his way through his first offseason with the team. The Cowboys wisely declined Lance’s fifth-year option, and he is in the final year of his contract. That said, Lance is 24 and about the same age as 2024 draftees Michael Penix Jr. (Atlanta Falcons) and Bo Nix (Denver Broncos). Prescott and Rush are established with the team, and there’s no justifiable reason for either to see extensive snaps during the preseason. Given the uncertain future Lance has with the Cowboys beyond this season, Dallas could move him right before the season. Lance should use the opportunity to showcase his talents for teams needing a quarterback, netting the Cowboys at least equal to what they spent to acquire Lance.

Daniel Jones facing another ‘prove-it’ year with Giants – Big Blue View
The Giants only fully guaranteed Jones two years on the four-year, $160 million contract he signed before the 2023 season. As a post-June 1 cut in 2025, the Giants could get out of Jones’ contract with $30.5 million in cap savings and only $11.105 million in dead money — provided the injury guarantee doesn’t kick in. Will they want to? Many hope the answer to that is ‘yes.’ Jones, though, might have his best-yet opportunity to succeed. There is no Saquon Barkley, but there is plenty to feel good about. There is a No. 1 wide receiver in Malik Nabers. There are quality receivers beyond Nabers in Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson and perhaps Jalin Hyatt, if he improves after a so-so rookie season. There is a solid tight end in Daniel Bellinger, and a potentially exciting rookie pass-catching tight end in fourth-round pick Theo Johnson. There is a quality veteran running back in Devin Singletary, and promising young players like Tyrone Tracy Jr., Eric Gray and Dante Miller behind him. There is a revamped offensive line that should provide the entire offense a better opportunity to function. There is also the strong possibility head coach Brian Daboll, under some pressure himself, will call plays and be highly invested in making sure the Giants play offense in a way that advantageous to helping Jones succeed. My instinct is to believe that Jones can do just that if the supporting cast around him finally functions the way the Giants envision it doing.

How would adding Brandon Aiyuk improve Washington’s offense? – Hogs Haven
If traded for, Aiyuk would immediately shoot to the top of that group, with Terry sliding to WR2 and Jahan filling out the complement of starting wide receivers. The unit as a whole would become a top five WR room in the league, behind only teams like the Texans, Dolphins, and Bengals. Aiyuk has established himself as one of the best wide receivers in the league, and it’s undeniable that he’d give Washington’s young rookie QB a stellar weapon as he adjusts to the pro game.

The Carolina Panthers are hurtling towards threats of relocation – SB Nation
All is not well with the Carolina Panthers, and it has nothing to do with recent years of putrid performance. Charlotte City Council will hear statements from the public on Monday about whether or not taxpayers believe $650M in revenue should be given to Tepper Sport Entertainment (TSE) to renovate Bank of America Stadium as part of a $1.3B proposal to upgrade the home of the Panthers. Over 60 percent of residents polled disagree with the proposal, which would exchange the $650M for a 20-year guarantee that the team would not relocate from Charlotte. This “guarantee” gives TSE a 15-year out to leave in 2039 and pay “any outstanding debt” in exchange for the move.
