Ubisoft CEO Says Multiple Assassin’s Creed Remakes Are Coming

on

Assassin’s Creed is one of the most legendary franchises in gaming history. It has been around since 2007, and in that time, this history-exploring series has taken players from Ancient Egypt to the streets of Victorian London. Some games have been much more successful than others, and many fans would have you believe that the series’ heyday was more than a decade ago. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that Ubisoft is working on multiple Assassin’s Creed remakes.

Speaking recently during an interview, the CEO of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot, touched on the concept of remaking the Assassin’s Creed series. He referenced there being ‘some remakes’ in the pipeline, which has got fans wondering what’s on the way. The only remake that has essentially been confirmed is 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

What else is being remade?

During a recent interview, Guillemot said:

‘There are worlds in some of our older Assassin’s Creed games that are still extremely rich.’

Most fans would love to see a remake of the first Assassin’s Creed. It would teleport them back almost twenty years into the past, allowing them to experience the origins of the franchise. Originally, Assassin’s Creed was in development as a planned Prince of Persia game, but it was pivoted to kickstart a new series. It has ended up being Ubisoft’s number-one franchise, so the decision was a shrewd one.

It hasn’t been free of complaints, though. Over the years, players have had issues with Ubisoft chopping and changing a little too much. In 2017, Assassin’s Creed Origins was introduced, bringing about a complete rework of the existing formula. It turned Assassin’s Creed into more of an RPG, offering players immense open-world environments to explore and packing games full of side content and expansions.

In 2020, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was released, emerging as the most ambitious AC game ever. It was gargantuan, boasting a drastically long runtime and more content than most players could realistically cope with. Later this year, we’re set to receive Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, an all-new game set in Feudal Japan that features the same RPG style of gameplay that we’re now used to.

It’s not yet known when any of these Assassin’s Creed remakes will surface, though. They’ll be welcome titles, that’s for sure – if players are given the chance to experience the adventures of Ezio Auditore in full current-gen glory, it’ll bring millions back into the ecosystem.
