What Do Armadillos Eat in Minecraft?

What do armadillos eat in Minecraft? This is a question often posed about a lot of mobs in the game. Determining what they eat is vital to taming those that can be tamed and breeding others. It’s also extremely useful for creating mob farms if you can just entice them to enter the fence rather than drag them on a lead. The armadillo is one of the newest non-hostile mobs in Minecraft, so it’s important to know how to feed it.

What Do Armadillos Eat in Minecraft?

Armadillos eat Spider Eyes in Minecraft. The Spider Eye is one of the most under-utilized items in the game, and the 1.20 update provided another use for it. When you feed an armadillo a Spider Eye, it will enter love mode. If there’s a second one in love mode, there will be a baby pretty soon.

The Spider Eye can also be used to accelerate the growth of the baby by 10%. This is also the item used to get them to follow you. If you’re holding one, they will follow within 10 (Java Edition) or 16 (Bedrock Edition) blocks. They usually spawn in groups of three in the savanna biomes and groups of two in badlands biomes.

When a player is sprinting, mounting, or harming near an Armadillo, they will roll up into a cube. This is also the state they enter when undead mobs are around. It takes less damage while in this form and it repels both spiders and cave spiders away from it. This can be useful to protect your base from those mobs. Armadillos slowly shed scutes over time or when brushed, which are used for Wolf Armor. This makes the armadillo a very useful mob even if it doesn’t drop anything but XP when it is killed by a player.
