2024 RED BUD MOTOCROSS PRE-RACE REPORT: INJURED LIST, TV SCHEDULE & MORE

Heading into the sixth round of the motocross season over the Fourth of July weekend at Red Bud. Jett Lawrence has continued to chip away at the points lead held by his brother Hunter Lawrence and is now tied for second with Chase Sexton. However, Jett crashed on Tuesday after Southwick and now he has been ruled out of the rest of the Pro Motocross series…

In the 250 class, Haiden Deegan has been dominant winning five of six overalls this season, but he has also crashed in a moto at each round. As soon as Deegan keeps it off the ground he looks to be one of the more successful riders this year.

VIALLE AND HYMAS NEED TO ACT FAST

Tom Vialle 2024 Southwick NationalHaiden Deegan has a 42-point lead over Chance Hymas and a 43-point lead over Tom Vialle as we head into the sixth race of the season. Haiden Deegan has won four of the five overalls so far this season only to be beaten by Ty Masterpool at High Point but even then did not lose any points as motocross is scored per moto and they flipped the script between moto one and two. Haiden Deegan has come out swinging and as we pass the midpoint of this season, Chance Hymas and Tom Vialle see the motocross title slipping away. In order to make up valuable points they need to act, quickly.

INJURED LIST:

JETT LAWRENCE – THUMB

Jett Lawrence 2024 Southwick National-Jett Lawrence crashed on Tuesday after Southwick and tore his UCL in his thumb and will miss the remainder of the Pro Motocross season.

The fall took place on Tuesday, July 2, at the “Dog Pound” (the Lawrence family’s private training facility in Florida). Later the same day, Jett underwent X-ray and MRI scans, and it was determined that he had a torn ulnar collateral ligament, or UCL.

“It’s obviously a bummer, but it’s part of our sport,” Lawrence said. “It was honestly a pretty small crash, but it is what it is. I’ve been pretty lucky with injuries in my career so far, so I guess it’s just my turn. I was happy with the progress we’ve made in the championship since my setback at Hangtown, and I was excited to try and keep my championship. That obviously won’t happen now, but I have a good team around me and will focus on getting healthy again and coming back at 100 percent. I look forward to cheering on Hunter and doing whatever I can to help him the rest of the series.”

COTY SCHOCK– ARM

Coty Schock suffered a broken arm that will require surgery in a practice crash at Club Mx earlier this week, He will be sitting out the remainder of the motocross series and is not sure on the recovery time for the injury.

NATE THRASHER – COLLARBONE

Nate Thrasher 2024 Hangtown Nationals Web-533Nate Thrasher will miss a few rounds due to a shoulder injury.

Nate Thrasher was injured while preparing for the outdoors. He broke his collarbone and bent the plate he had on his collarbone from a previous repair. The Tennessee rider rode with the injury at Hangtown, but further evaluation after the race showed the damage. He underwent surgery after Hangtown to repair the injury and aims to return to riding in eight to 10 weeks.

COOPER WEBB – THUMB

Cooper Webb had closed the points gap on Jett Lawrence in the 450 Supercross Championship only to injure the ulnar ligament in his left thumb. He kept racing, but it was obvious that he had trouble holding on—that allowed Jett Lawrence to pull away in the Championship points chase. Cooper Webb is back to riding however and is looking to return to racing soon.

Cooper Webb said, “It’s disappointing to be missing the beginning of Pro Motocross, but fixing this thumb injury is a must to be at my best for the remainder of the year. The goal is to come back for the final stretch of the outdoor season and come into the SMX playoffs swinging.”

ELI TOMAC – THUMB

Eli Tomac will be sitting out this weekend and possibly in the near future as the crash in Denver resulted in a fracture and torn ligaments in his thumb that will require surgery. Eli will sit out the opening rounds of motocross.

Eli Tomac States: “This is not the news I wanted to break to everyone, but at the Denver Supercross in free practice I crashed on my thumb, and it’s resulted in a Bennett fracture and some torn ligaments that will require surgery to stabilize my thumb. This is a tough one to swallow, knowing that I’m going to miss the opening rounds of motocross, but I’m optimistic I will be able to race the later portion of the outdoor season and the SMX rounds. I want to thank all my fans and Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing for being so supportive through the Supercross season. We will be back stronger in the later half of this season.”
