WWE superstar John Cena, who made is much anticipated return during the 2018 Royal Rumble, subtly hinted that there could be a possibility of a match between him and WWE legend The Undertaker at this year’s Wrestlemania.
Wrestlemania is WWE’s grand PPV that every professional wrestler dreams of participating in.
During Monday Night Raw that was aired on February 12, Cena was addressing the next pay per view event, WWE Elimination Chamber, where he, will compete against six other superstars with the winner getting a shot at the WWE Universal Title against Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania.
While Cena’s speech was mainly about the match, he said, “Wrestlemania can bring a legend back from the dead.”
Fans immediately sprung to Twitter to hint at a possible match between The Undertaker and Cena.
For those who aren’t aware, The Undertaker, whose real name is Mark Callaway, lost to Roman Reigns during last year’s Wrestlemania in a match many saw as a ‘passing of the torch’ moment. After the match, ‘Taker’ folded his trenchcoat and placed it in the middle of the ring, and placed his hat on top of it. He then ‘broke character’ and kissed his wife before making his way backstage.
Many had assumed that The Undertaker had retired by then, and tributes with #ThankYouTaker began pouring on social media. However, The Undertaker did not confirm or deny any retirement. He then underwent hip surgery before making his appearance on the 25th anniversary of Monday Night Raw, hinting at a possible return to active professional wrestling.
A John Cena and Undertaker match has been on the talks for several months now, given that even Cena is at the end of his career. Both wrestlers are potential WWE Hall of Famers and are likely to headline the official ceremony in the next 2-3 years.
