Despite being called a ‘big, fat, 40-year-old failed Mr Olympia mother f*****’, John Cena reckons Conor McGregor would be a ‘fantastic WWE superstar’.
The ‘Notorious’ UFC two-weight world champion has teased switching to the squared circle before, admitting he is a huge fan.
He even perfects his swaggering walk in the manor of WWE owner Vince McMahon, who the Irishman described once as a ‘legend’ who is a ‘mad b******’.
But McGregor angered many professional wrestlers back in 2016 when he branded them ‘p******’ and took aim at 16-time world champion Cena.
Cena has followed the path of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and enjoyed success outside the ring in Hollywood movies of late.
He starred in ‘Trainwreck’ with Amy Schumer in 2015 and last Christmas’ box office hit ’Daddy’s Home 2’, alongside Mark Wahlberg and funnyman Will Ferrell.
Cena, who wants to fight The Undertaker at WrestleMania 34, has been promoting his latest film ‘Blockers’ which hits screens in the UK and Ireland this month.
And it was during his promotional tour where he was asked whether McGregor should follow in the footsteps of Ronda Rousey and switch the UFC for WWE.
“He would do fantastic. Hell, he would put me out of work,” said Cena, speaking to entertainment.ie.
“He gets the entertainment aspect of sport, and I think he gets it as good, or better, than anyone else. The way he promoted the fight against [Floyd] Mayweather – that’s what we do. He did it as good, or better, than us.
“I hope one day, if you’re out there watching and you want to come to WWE, he would be a fantastic WWE superstar.”
McGregor, 29, is expected to return to the Octagon this year with billion dollar MMA superfight rematch with Floyd Mayweather.
The Crumlin fighter was beaten in a 10th round stoppage by Mayweather last August in Las Vegas when he switched to boxing.
But Mayweather, unbeaten in 50 boxing contests, recently revealed his intentions to apply for a licence in MMA.
