At the conclusion of the last night’s (April 3, 2018) episode of SmackDown Live, Carmella’s time as the Money in the Bank (MITB) briefcase holder reached 280 consecutive days, tying Edge for the longest such span in history.
That means as of this morning, Carmella now holds the record for the most consecutive days holding the MITB contract, starting her 281st consecutive day with the coveted briefcase.
This number does not count her first two days with the briefcase, which lasted from the night of June 18, 2017 through the night of June 20, 2017. Daniel Bryan stripped her of the briefcasedue to the controversial role James Ellsworth played in the finish of that match, and set up a new MITB Ladder match for the June 27 episode of SmackDown Live.
Carmella reclaimed the briefcase on that night and has yet to officially cash it in.
Here are the 4 longest tallies in history for consecutive days as the official holder of the MITB briefcase:
- 280+ days: Carmella (June 27, 2017 to today)
- 280 days: Edge (April 3, 2005 to January 8, 2006)
- 273 days: Seth Rollins (June 29, 2014 to March 29, 2015)
- 267 days: Dolph Ziggler (July 15, 2012 to April 8, 2013)
These are the only four instances in history of a superstar officially holding the MITB contract for longer than half a year.
Edge and Carmella are also right next to each other atop the list for total career days holding a MITB briefcase.
Carmella’s two separate runs with the briefcase add up to 282+ total days.
Edge briefly held the briefcase again in 2007 after winning it from Mr. Kennedy on the May 7 episode of Raw. Edge cashed in on SmackDown that week, so he held the briefcase for either 1 day or 4 days, depending on how you prefer to count tape-delayed airings of SmackDown. That means Edge held a MITB briefcase for either 281 or 284 total days. Carmella will surpass the latter figure by the time WrestleMania 34 rolls around this Sunday, April 8, from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Carmella has held the MITB briefcase longer than any other star in history. With that record now in her rear view mirror, do you think WrestleMania 34 will be the night she finally cashes it in? Or will a regular occurrence of inept cash-in attempts actually curse her to hold this briefcase for the entire 12 month period?
