From Huntsville, Alabama

Smackdown Live GM Paige appeared on the video monitor to welcome everyone to the show and to announce a triple threat Tag Team Championship match.

Bludgeon Brothers retained the SD Live Tag Team Championship over the Usos and Rusev Day in the opener. This was a fun match. BBs didn’t have their hammers and destroyed the ringside area post-match (threw chairs, ring steps, the bell, etc. items into and around the ring). All three teams were over, including the BBs (Loud “Luuuuuke” chants, and he did his “Yeeeeeah” thing to acknowledge them), with Rusev Day edging out Usos in terms of pop. Rusev looks huge in person.

Andrade “Cien” Almas w/ Zelina Vega defeated Sin Cara. This was not a very good match, but there weren’t any real botches either. At one point, however, Sin Cara hit a nasty DDT off the top rope onto Almas that looked like it may have injured Almas but he finished the match and appeared to be fine. Crowd was dead for this match.

Becky Lynch defeated Mandy Rose via DQ when Sonya Deville interfered. The match was ok, but the timing was off on a lot of the spots. With that being said, it was back and forth with Mandy holding her own. Timing issues aside, she looked pretty good and appears to be improving. Finish saw Becky put Mandy in the DisarmHer until Sonya attacked. This led to Naomi making the save for Becky until Lana ran out to make it 3 on 2 in favor of the heels. Asuka came out to even the odds and the faces cleared the ring. Becky challenged them to a 6-woman tag and the heels accepted.

Becky Lynch, Naomi, and Asuka defeated Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, and Lana. The crowd was really into this match, but similar to the single match, the timing was off on a lot of spots and there were botches and awkward moments mostly involving the heel team. It wasn’t anything too bad, though, and they should improve with time. The faces were really over, especially Asuka. Asuka scored the victory with the Asuka Lock on Lana.

Big Cass defeated Tye Dillinger via pinfall after hitting a big boot. This was a surprisingly good match-up. Seriously. It contends for the MotN on this card. It lasted about 15 minutes or so. Both guys looked good, with back and forth action. Tye was over, while Cass got a lot of heat. Cass didn’t talk on the mic beforehand either so that certainly helped, but the in-ring stuff was rock solid. This was easily the best Big Cass match that I’ve seen to date, and I actually look forward to seeing more of him after this silly Daniel Bryan feud ends.

The New Day defeated Shelton Benjamin and The Bar via pinfall. Very fun match, with all 6 guys getting nice reactions. New Day were extremely over. Not much to note here. Standard 6-man tag. Brief intermission of about 10 minutes or so followed this match.

The Club defeated Sanity (Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe) via DQ when Killian Dain interfered. 3 v 2 beat down ensued until Anderson and Gallows managed to clear Sanity and send them packing. “Too sweet” chants for the Club, while most of the people seemed to not know what to make of Sanity.

Carmella retained the SD Live Women’s championship over Charlotte Flair. Carmella had the ring announcer remind everyone that she has beaten Charlotte twice. This match was a ton of fun and the crowd ate it up. Lots of stalling from Carmella to start out, including trying to walk out on the match with her title, running laps around the ring, using the referee to block Charlotte from reaching her, etc. Charlotte eventually gets her hands on her however, and dominated most of the match. Carmella ended up winning with a cheap roll up after Charlotte was distracted with the ref and quickly ran away while Charlotte looks upset in the ring.

The main event saw Jeff Hardy retain the United States Championship in a fatal four way over Shinsuke Nakamura, Samoa Joe, and the Miz. All four guys were over, and there was a funny moment before the bell rang with the Miz taking his time disrobing. Jeff and Joe ended up on the outside very early, and the guy holding all of Miz’s entrance stuff is still at ringside so he asked for his headband thing back. He tied it around his head and was acting like a kung fu master or something to Nakamura, who used a bandanna or whatever from around his arm to make a nunchuk and the two kept “attacking” each other with poses. Joe came back in to disrupt them, much to the chagrin of the crowd. The finish saw Jeff Hardy hit a Twist of Fate on Miz for the victory. Jeff looked injured, spending a lot of time on the outside. He didn’t attempt a Swanton either.

Random notes: I’ve been watching wrestling for 23 years and this was my very first live show of any kind, including indies and local shows. It was a lot of fun. We had floor seats about 6 rows from the ring, right against the entrance “ramp.” Sorry for lack of details on some of the matches, as this is all from memory and being written after a long night of driving.

Biggest face pops: New Day, Asuka, Charlotte, Jeff Hardy, The Miz

Biggest heel heat: Big Cass, Bludgeon Brothers

Mostly everyone got cheered, so not many heel reactions.

Prior to the main event, they announced that match would air on the WWE Network and they brought out a couple of camera men. I don’t know if it was live or will air at a future time, though.

Thanks for reading. — Eric
