The WWE seemingly had a change of heart as it relates to two top matches that were scheduled for Evolution. The previous plan was to see Trish Stratus take on Alexa Bliss and Lita square off with Mickie James in singles competition. Instead, Monday Night Raw saw a tag match between the four competitors officially announced.
According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, the tag match was planned all along and not the result of a last minute booking decision. The rationale behind announcing the Trish Stratus v Alexa Bliss match was that the WWE needed a marquee match announced for when tickets went on sale, and they didn’t want to announce Ronda Rousey v Nikki Bella until the Bella heel turn angle was shot. Now that the heel turn happened and the main event was announced, the WWE was free to pull the plug on the previously announced attractions.
