According to the Wrestling Observer, IMPACT Wrestling has wanted to bring in Michael Elgin as a member of their roster since Don Callis began his role as Executive Producer. Callis, who knew Elgin from their time in NJPW, reportedly expected a certain backlash for Elgin’s appearance due to a sexual assault case that Elgin supposedly covered up. However, the lawsuit for that case has since been dropped due to a lack of substantial evidence. The Canadian star received a loud/welcoming response from his debut at Sunday’s Rebellionpay per view in Toronto.
Callis supposedly also wanted to bring over Davey Boy Smith Jr to join team IMPACT, but was denied by NJPW due to the Japanese promotion’s working relationship with Ring of Honor. New Japan has told Elgin that if his stint with IMPACT doesn’t work out, he could always return. Prior to quitting, Elgin had not been used very much by NJPW, especially in the states. He is a former IWGP Never Openweight champion and Intercontinental champion.
Stay tuned.
