A trio in the lead at the 2024 Sony Open half

The second round of the Sony Open 2024, taking place in Hawaii as per tradition, ended during the Italian night. There are three of them who can claim the lead in the standings. They are the Chinese Carl Yuan, the American Austin Eckroat and the South Korean Byeong Hun An (recently returned from a brief suspension for testing positive). For everyone the score is -9, even if An scores -6, Yuan -5 and Eckroat -4 on the day.

Fourth position at -8 for a very large group, which includes yesterday’s leader, the Australian Cam Davis. Of the non-USA members, with him are the German Stephan Jaeger and the Frenchman Matthieu Pavon. Kurt Kitayama, Ben Griffin (-8 for them), Stewart Cink, Keith Mitchell, Taylor Montgomery, Chris Kirk and Grayson Murray complete the picture.

There were many emotions during the day, and at a certain point there was even room for some hilarity, because various internet users pointed out that the PGA Tour scoreboard gave Troy Meritt (20th at -6) a hole in one. It would also be credible, if it weren’t on a par 5 (he then made a birdie).

Among those cut, two important names stand out: Matt Fitzpatrick and Will Zalatoris. The English and the USA, therefore, suffer a small blow at the beginning of the year which will culminate in April with the Masters.

The Hawaiian Islands are a federal state of the United States of America (the 50th and last state, in chronological order of establishment; acronym = HI), is a volcanic archipelago located in the Pacific Ocean consisting of eight main islands and many smaller islands, rocks and shoals. The state’s coastline, approximately 1,210 km (750 miles) long, is the fourth longest in the USA after those of Alaska, Florida and California.[4] The state of Hawaii is the 50th state of the United States of America and has jurisdiction over all the islands of the archipelago with the exception of Midway Atoll, which is under direct federal control. Hawaii is the 43rd largest state by area, the 40th largest by population, but the 13th most densely populated of the 50 states of the United States of America. Like Alaska, it is not part of the so-called contiguous United States (it is almost 4,000 km from the American coast: the closest point is California).
