According to sources within AEW, there’s said to be no interest in ever working with CM Punk. Some are even saying it’ll “never” happen. During an interview with ESPN in July, Punk made a lot of negative remarks about the company and how he felt they handled communications with him over text messaging. AEW is said to have ended their relationship with Punk after feeling disrespected. Dave Meltzer claims that he knows what really happened during this period and believes AEW has every right to feel this way.

Those in WWE believe that Punk’s audition for WWE’s Fox show is his way of angling to get back in the ring. The feeling is that Punk will use this position as a way to negotiate a part time schedule like Brock Lesnar’s. Vince McMahon has given people he didn’t like in the past good contracts when it was best for business.

Punk’s audition was said to have gone really well and will “probably get an offer.” The situation between Fox, WWE, and Punk is said to feel awkward but the WWE’s hands are tied in the decision.
