Agassi Laughs Off Novak Djokovic’s Melbourne Feat: More Titles Than My Entire Career!

on

Novak Djokovic will kick off his 19th Australian Open campaign against Dino Prizmic at Rod Laver Arena on Sunday night. The defending champion will seek his 11th crown at Melbourne Park, eager to extend his incredible Australian legacy for another year. Andre Agassi, who arrived in Melbourne ahead of the tournament, stated a shocking fact. The American reminded everyone that Novak’s Australian Open tally is more significant than his entire Major collection. Agassi claimed eight Major trophies at all four notable tournaments, and Djokovic passed that number by playing the Australian Open alone! Novak claimed his first title Down Under in 2008 at 20. He became the dominant figure at Melbourne Park in 2011, losing only a few matches and standing on an incredible ten Australian Open trophies!

To make things even more difficult for his rivals, the Serb is yet to lose after passing the quarter-final stage in Melbourne, delivering his best tennis in the crucial moments. Djokovic endured some of the most incredible tennis encounters at Rod Laver Arena, defeating Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka and other rivals en route to glorious ten titles. A year ago, Novak secured his tenth title over Stefanos Tsitsipas, beating the Greek 6-3, 7-6, 7-6 in two hours and 55 minutes. Novak claimed only two breaks, losing serve once and overpowering his opponent in the pivotal moments, keeping his perfect record in the Australian Open finals.

Andre Agassi praised Novak Djokovic’s incredible Australian Open dominance.

Tsitsipas squandered a set point in the second set and wasted an early advantage in the third, settling with the runner-up prize. Djokovic became the second player with ten titles at a single Major, following Rafael Nadal’s feat. Novak gathered a boost for the rest of the season, reaching the final at all four Majors and conquering three, standing alone at 24 Major trophies. Djokovic is eager to repeat that run in 2024 despite turning 37 in June, hoping to keep the young guns behind him for another season. Novak experienced a wrist injury during the United Cup, falling to Alex de Minaur but recovering his hand ahead of the Australian Open.

“Novak has more Australian Open titles than I have won Majors, for crying out loud. You can only laugh over that fact, as there’s not much else to say,” Andre Agassi said.
