AJ Styles reveals he almost wrestled WWE Hall Of Famer at Royal Rumble

AJ STYLES tried to convince WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels to come out of retirement for a dream match against him last year.

Michaels (real name Michael Shawn Hickenbottom), 52, retired in 2010 after losing an epic WrestleMania match to The Undertaker.

Many fans have been wanting to see the Heartbreak Kid wrestle one more match for the past eight years but the four-time world champion remained in the sidelines.

Styles tried to convince The Showstopper to return to the ring and face him for one more match in Michaels’ hometown of San Antonio, Texas at the Royal Rumble.

HBK however stayed firm and kindly declined The Phenomenal One’s offer.

The WWE Champion told India Today: “I appreciate the fact that fans want to see big matches but some of them will never happen.

“I’ve tried to get Shawn Michaels to come into the ring one more time. They’re just not going to happen.

“But, there are certain matches people hope to see and I hope I can deliver those matches.

“He said no. I’m not doing it. But being in the ring with someone like Shawn Michaels or The Undetaker and being able to learn from those guys will be a blessing.

“I would love to be in the ring with Shawn Michaels. Similar size, similar styles and to be in the ring with someone like that and all the knowledge he has. It would be a classic.”

Styles (real name Allen Jones), 40, is set to compete in a dram match at WrestleMania 34 against the men’s Royal Rumble winner Shinsuke Nakamura.
