Alice Hewson, two wins on the LET at playoff

Alice Hewson made it two wins on the Ladies European Tour at the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open.

In a playoff, the 26-year-old Englishwoman beat India’s Tvesa Malik on the first playoff hole, scoring the winning birdie.

“I don’t know what to say,” said the winner, “and I congratulate Tvesa. It was an emotional finale today and it was an honor to play with her. It’s been a while since I’ve been in this situation!”

Hewson, in fact, achieved her second victory 4 years after winning the Investec South African Women’s Open trophy (in 2020).

Another star of the tournament was Fatima Fernandez Cano, who failed to birdie the 18th hole to force a three-way playoff.

With her 2nd place, Malik recorded her best finish on the LET and earned a place in next week’s Aramco Team Series event in London.

3rd lap leader Fernandez Cano finished the tournament in 3rd place, tied with Ireland’s Lauren Walsh, at -10.

Sweden’s Moa Folke and Spain’s Maria Hernandez shared 5th place, at -8, while Thailand’s Aunchisa Utama and Spain’s Mireia Prat and Harang Lee were seventh, one stroke further back.

After an exciting last round at the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open, which saw the Spanish Marta Martin triumph, the Ladies European Tour moves to Switzerland this week for the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open scheduled from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th. It is the fifth edition consecutive tournament after an eight-year hiatus, with victories by Amy Boulden (2020), Atthaya Thitikul (2021), Liz Young (2022) and Alexandra Försterling (2023). Located just south of Zurich and overlooking the picturesque Lake Zug, Golfpark Holzhäusern is hosting the tournament for the fifth consecutive year.

Known for its breathtaking mountain views, Golfpark Holzhäusern is a par 71 course where accuracy off the tee is a determining factor. A total of 132 players from 33 nations will participate in the 54-hole tournament in Switzerland. The event represents the 16th tournament of the 2024 LET season. The prize money is €300,000 with a cut expected for the first 60 players and ties after 36 holes.

Unfortunately, Alexandra Försterling, confirmed for the 2024 Olympic Games, will not be present in Switzerland to defend her title. However, there will be three past champions in the field: in addition to Liz Young, Lee-Anne Pace (2010) and Marianne Skarpnord (2009) will be present.

Week of rest for our Alessandra Fanali, just confirmed for the Olympics, and Virginia Elena Carta. However, there is a strong participation of local athletes with Chiara Tamburlini leading the list as the highest ranked Swiss player in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings to compete this week. The 24-year-old, currently fourth on the LET order of merit, has one win under her belt in 2024 after winning the Joburg Ladies Open and is leading the race for Rookie of the Year. Chiara Tamburlini will be joined by 12 other Swiss players, including Kim Metraux, Tiffany Arafi, Elena Moosmann and Yana Beeli, the winner of the PING Junior Solheim Cup.
