Aston Martin confirm contract extension for Stroll

on

As expected, Aston Martin F1 has confirmed that a contract extension will see Lance Stroll continue to race with the Silverstone-based outfit for the coming seasons.

Despite the Canadian’s subdued results with his father’s team so far this year, there was never really any doubt about the 25-year-old’s F1 future.

Stroll has struggled since last season to race on a par with teammate Fernando Alonso.

This relative underperformance has undeniably cost Aston points and led many to conclude that the team, given its championship ambitions, could not afford in the long-term such a disparity between its two drivers.

In this year’s campaign, Stroll has scored just four top-ten finishes, or 17 points, while Alonso has accumulated 41 championship points year-to-date.

“I’m super happy to have committed to staying with the team for 2025 and beyond,” commented Stroll.

“It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come in the last five years; we’ve grown so much as a team and there’s still so much more to look forward to.”

Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack outlined Stroll’s “key role” in building the team.

“His technical feedback, alongside his committed simulator work, has helped contribute to the continuous development of the car each season,” he said.

“The consistency and stability of both Lance and Fernando remaining with our team is a great platform to continue to realise our ambitions.

“We look forward to creating some more incredible memories and achieving further success together.”

On the other side of the Aston Martin garage, Alonso’s contract with the team was extended last April on a multi-year basis.

At 42, the always competitive Spaniard is showing no signs of slowing down.
