The Awesome Kong surprise appearance at the AEW Double Or Nothing pay-per-view on Saturday night was reportedly planned four months in advance.
As seen during the show, Kong was added to the first-ever AEW women’s PPV match as a last-minute surprise. Kong would go on to compete in the Fatal-4-Way Women’s match, which included Britt Baker, Nyla Rose and Kylie Rae.

The news was kept secretive within the company, as only a “very small circle of people” knew about it, according to Mike Johnson (@MikePWInsider) and PWInsider.com.
Kong noted that Diamond Dallas Page, who also made an appearance on the show during the Cody vs. Dustin “Nightmare vs. Natural” match, gave her a “huge motivational speech” prior to her going out to the ring for the first time in years. She claimed that his pre-match backstage speech helped her “find the Kong persona again.”
Speaking of Awesome Kong, the wrestling veteran is also scheduled to appear on the filmed and wrapped third season of GLOW on Netflix.
