The controversial “referee stoppage” finish to “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt vs. WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins at Sunday’s Hell In a Cell pay-per-view was said to be a Vince McMahon idea, according to John Pollock of POST Wrestling and Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select.
There was reportedly another ending to the match that was discussed, but it would’ve also saw the match end with a non-finish for the match. That plan was nixed for the idea they went with.
At least one source from within WWE noted that Vince was “laughing off” the fan reactions to the match at first, when the fans started the negative chants in the arena. However, that report was later disputed by a high-level source in the company. It was then reported that Vince did take the negative fan reactions seriously, and that he is “not oblivious” to what’s going on. Vince was said to be aware of how he messed up in booking the finish of the main event, according to those near him and the situation.
As noted, Wyatt was reportedly injured during the match, along with Sasha Banks in the opener against RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch, but there’s no word yet on injury details or how long they will be out. Fiend vs. Rollins could be planned for the November 24 WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view as WWE tweeted the match announcement earlier today, but quickly deleted it. WWE’s official RAW preview for tonight has no mention of Wyatt or Rollins.
