John Cena or AJ Styles will leave WWE Royal Rumble as the WWE Champion, but who challenges either superstar for the title at WrestleMania 33 isn’t as clear.

The Undertaker is a favorite to win the Rumble (assuming he enters it) to set up a desired WrestleMania match against Cena, a bout that was earmarked for WrestleMania 32 before Cena’s injury. Likewise, Undertaker vs. Styles was rumored as a potential Royal Rumble title match at one point, meaning that could still be an option for ‘Mania as well. As a result, it seems many fans have penciled in Taker vs. Styles or Cena for WrestleMania 33.

But here’s a wild card option that would be a better choice for WWE’s long-term future: Baron Corbin vs. whoever is WWE Champion.

On this week’s SmackDown, WWE hinted at Corbin’s potential involvement in the WWE Championship picture when he interrupt the Cena/Styles contract signing and revealed that he was the blue brand’s first Royal Rumble entrant. Now, Corbin is set to go one-on-one with Cena on next week’s episode in what could be a precursor to a WrestleMania 33 rivalry with Cena or perhaps even Styles.

Just a few short months ago, hardly anyone could have imagined Corbin getting a high-profile match at WrestleMania, but seemingly overnight, “The Lone Wolf” has improved leaps and bounds to the point where WWE has positioned him against “The Champ.” Corbin has shown the strides he’s made as an in-ring performer during big matches against Styles, Dolph Ziggler and even Kalisto, and with Styles continuing to gain the support of fans, Corbin is now narguably the biggest heel on the blue brand.

Translation: WWE has strapped the proverbial rocket to Corbin, and it couldn’t have happened at a better time for him.
