Myles Garrett, Joe Flacco among nominees just announced

While the NFL and NFL fans have turned the page to the 2024 season, including the Cleveland Browns announcing just six training camp sessions open to the public, celebrating the 2023 season continues. The Browns made an exciting run to the NFL playoffs last year but were cut down in the first round.

Led by Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett and Comeback Player of the Year Joe Flacco, Cleveland fans had a lot to celebrate in 2023 and have concerns that 2024 might be a letdown.

While Flacco has moved on to a new team and Garrett is willing to do whatever it takes for the Browns in 2024, ESPN has nominated both for ESPYS awards for last year’s performances:

BEST NFL PLAYER

Myles Garrett, Cleveland Browns

Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers

Being the lone defender on the list is a huge statement for Garrett’s performance last year.

BEST COMEBACK ATHLETE

Simone Biles, Gymnast

Paige Bueckers, University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball

Joe Flacco, Cleveland Browns

Zion Williamson, New Orleans Pelicans

Interestingly, the Associated Press has changed their comeback player criteria following Flacco’s award but ESPN still sees him among the best comeback athletes.

Do you think either Garrett or Flacco will win the ESPY for their performance last year?
