WWE fans know him as the ‘Monster Among Men’.
But Braun Strowman could have been something else had it not been for an awakening moment of inspiration.
Strowman, real name Adam Joseph Scherr, has revealed he discovered his in-ring name after watching ESPN Sports Center – and was inspired by Major League Baseball’s Milwaukee Brewers star Ryan Braun.
“Funny story, I wanted to meet Ryan Braun because that’s a big influence of where ‘Braun’ came from,” he said, speaking in an interview with TMJ4-TV in Milwaukee.
“I had pitched a bunch of ideas for names with the company and they turned them all down.
“It kind of got down to a time crunch, we need to figure out something out now.
“We were sitting around the [WWE] Performance Center and Sportscenter was on and they were talking about Ryan Braun and I was like ‘Braun, that sounds pretty good.’
“I mean look at me, I’m 6’8 and 385 lbs. I mean Braun is pretty fitting.”
Strowman, a former world’s strongest man competitor, has torn his way through WWE since his arrival as a member of the Wyatt Family.
And now as a standout singles star, he has proved the most feared man in sports entertainment wrecking all this who stand in his way.
Strowman, 34, missed out on headlining WrestleMania 34 against Brock Lesnar for the Universal title after Roman Reigns conquered him in the recent Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.
Many WWE fans want to see him added into the mix on April 8 in New Orleans.
That remains to be seen, however, with Strowman currently engaged in a feud with Elias. Both of whom could still be added into the Intercontinental title picture at the Show of Shows alongside Finn Balor and Seth Rollins against The Miz.
