Camila Giorgi qualified for the second round of the Australian Open 2023. The Italian tennis player defeated the Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets, with the final score of 6-0 6-1, in less than an hour of play.
In the post-match press conference, Camila, however, discussed not only the match, but also the latest investigations related to the vaccine, with Camila’s doctor who is being investigated in Italy for alleged false vaccinations.
About her first round match, Camila expressed on her victory and on her tennis. She told: “I think it was a great match. I had a good match and had great feelings. I’m really happy to be back here in Australia.”
Camila Giorgi on false vaccination issue: “It’s not my problem”
The questions on the vaccination question could not be missing with Giorgi who faced the first challenge after the controversies of the last few weeks in Italy. However, the Italian tennis player has launched clear and decisive messages, once and for all clarifying.
She explained: “In Italy they made reports about my vaccination status, but they did it before knowing the situation. The doctor was investigated and had problems with the law. For my part, I have had all the possible vaccinations in different places, it is the doctor’s problem, not mine.
So I’m very calm about this situation. If it hadn’t been like this I wouldn’t have been able to come here to Australia to play, at least I think. I am in no danger at all and have no trouble to defend. I did everything the Australian Government asked. I didn’t know about the doctor’s background, she has over 300 people she has collaborated with, but I had one vaccination with her and then I had others with other doctors. Again, that’s her problem, not mine.”
The journalists then continued by repeating the question several times: Camila appeared a little annoyed but answered everyone and clarified.
