Dr Disrespect Is Being Cut Off By Brands Following Ban Scandal

on

Days ago, Dr Disrespect took to social media to admit to messaging a minor on Twitch in 2017. He posted a lengthy statement that explained the state of play, highlighting that nothing nefarious happened but it still wasn’t right. Since then, he has stepped away from streaming to take an extended vacation with his family, after which he promises to return – but some are concerned there won’t be much for him to come back to.

On social and streaming platforms, numerous top-tier creators have denounced his actions and taken steps to distance themselves from him. This includes the likes of Ninja, Nickmercs, and TimTheTatman, all of whom have spent many hours playing alongside Dr Disrespect. Now, as Dr Disrespect jets off on vacation, several brands are cutting ties with him, moving away from the charismatic and controversial creator.

What’s Left?

It started with Midnight Society – the studio that Guy ‘Dr Disrespect’ Beahm co-founded – parting ways with him. The scandalous streamer suggested it was a mutual decision to leave the firm, but it left many doubting the future of the brand now that it has effectively lost its frontman. Despite that, the head of the studio – Robert Bowling – stressed candidly that he simply can’t work with someone who has committed the acts that Dr Disrespect has.

Since then, the San Francisco 49ers, an American football team, has stepped away from Beahm. Following years of collaborations, representatives of the team said:

‘We take these developments seriously and will not be working with him going forward.’

NBA 2K also kicked Beahm to the curb, removing his character from NBA 2K24. Dr Disrespect was a playable athlete in the game, which was designed as a nod to the creator’s high school basketball days, but he’s now being stripped from the title. Further, Turtle Beach has separated from Beahm also. For several years, the gaming peripherals brand has sponsored Dr Disrespect, using him as the face of the brand in many cases, but now they’ve confirmed:

‘We will not be continuing our partnership with Guy Beahm/DrDisRespect.’

There are a few sponsors still sitting quietly and contemplating their next move. For instance, Dr Disrespect has long had ties to FanDuel, a betting platform, and he has revealed connections in the past to the likes of Gilette, Mountain Dew, and ASUS.

This highly inflammatory situation will have dire implications for any brand still opting to align with Beahm. With the slew of content creators turning out Dr Disrespect and the sponsors falling fast, it seems that there will be nothing for Beahm to come back to if he does make good on his promise to return. What started in 2017 as a serious mistake led to a Twitch ban in 2020, which in turn led to the downfall of one of the biggest creators in history in 2024.

What a journey.
