Ex World Cup Pumas Join Uruguay Coaching Staff

Uruguay has bolstered its coaching staff, reports Ignacio Chans. Former Pumas Juan Figallo and Leonardo Senatore have been added as has former Tero, Joaquín Pastore. The trio join the team under new Head Coach Rodolfo Ambrosio.

Figallo is back in South America from England. He recently left his coaching role at Saracens where he was involved in the Women’s team. The 36-year-old brings extensive experience including winning the English Premiership as a player and appearing in three Rugby World Cups. He won the award for being the best player in his pool at Rugby World Cup 2011.

In arriving in Uruguay, Figallo has the responsibility of being Uruguayan Forwards Coach. He will team-up with Senatore who makes the move from Peñarol in Super Rugby Americas (SRA). The 40-year-old former Pumas N8 was the Head Coach of the Uruguayan SA entrant. His new role is Uruguay’s lineout coach.

Pastore is the one survivor from the previous coaching regime. Under Esteban Meneses he was the backs coach. He retains the role now under Ambrosio. He is a product of Old Boys in Uruguay. He went on to play in the biggest stage, representing Uruguay at Rugby World Cup 2003. He was a part of the side that defeated Georgia in Sydney, Australia.

Uruguay will play home matches in July against Tier 1 opponents. First up is France in Montevideo on Wednesday, July 10. The Teros roster for is yet to be announced; however, Uruguay’s foreign-based professional players are to begin arriving home on July 01.
