Exclusive: De’Vondre Campbell talks joining ‘contender’ 49ers, filling in for Greenlaw, Nick Sorensen, more

“I have a lot of respect for Nick Sorensen. First and foremost, he’s a former player like you said, so that mutual respect is present. We both understand how hard it is to play in this league. There’s always mutual respect between players, past and present.

To be honest with you, I didn’t know much about him as a coach until I got here. I knew who he was as a player because I’m weird like that, I’m a football junkie, I know every player (laughs). Being around coach Sorensen for the past six-to-eight weeks, I’ve grown to know him a lot better.

He’s a super cool guy and coach. I think I’m going to fit in really well here. I love the way he calls the defense. With him being a former player, he has a certain knowledge of how to go about things on that side of the ball. Things are going very well so far. I’m excited to see what’s in store.”

San Francisco 49ers’ positive meeting with Brandon Aiyuk confirmed what everyone already knew

“So what I would anticipate here is all parties involved will go ahead and enjoy the 4th of July holiday, regroup sometime after that. They’ve still got several weeks here to see if they can hammer out a deal that locks in Brandon Aiyuk with San Francisco for the long haul.”

Hasselbeck identifies key Purdy trait that makes 49ers QB a ‘baller’

“I think a lot of it is decision-making in a split second,” Hasselbeck said. “It’s also making the throw at the moment of truth. I use this example a lot with quarterbacks that I coach — the best golfers in the world, they make that putt the first time. You don’t get a second chance.

“[Purdy] seized the opportunity, took advantage of it, and he made those big time throws in a split second when they needed them to be made. A lot of guys out there are like, ‘Oh I could have done that.’ Yeah, but you didn’t when the opportunity arose. He took advantage of it, and I don’t think they’ll ever look back.”
