How to Craft a Saddle in Minecraft

on

Since its addition to the game, players have wondered how to craft a saddle in Minecraft. This item has been very rare and sometimes a challenge to obtain, meaning players might not be able to get a horse and take advantage of their abilities. In later updates, the saddle became even more useful thanks to camels, Striders, and other mobs. Nevertheless, here’s what you need to know about how to craft a saddle in Minecraft.

How to Craft a Saddle in Minecraft

Unfortunately, you can’t craft a saddle in Minecraft. It is one of the few remaining non-craftable items. Players have begged for it to be a makeable item, but it’s not despite there being an obvious recipe with leather. For now, you can’t make one in vanilla Minecraft. You can, however, obtain them from a wide variety of locations. Here’s where you should go looking if you need one:

  • Dungeon chest (27.9% chance)
  • Ancient City chest (16.1% chance)
  • Bastion remnant Hoglin stable chest (13.6% chance)
  • Desert temple chest (23.5% chance)
  • End city chest (13.3% chance)
  • Jungle temple chest (12.9% chance, 12.8% in Bedrock)
  • Nether fortress (35.3% chance)
  • Stronghold altar chest (2.5% chance, 2.4% in Bedrock)
  • Weaponsmith’s village chest (16.2% chance)
  • Savanna house village chest (11.3% chance)
  • Tanner’s village chest. (17.3% chance)

You can also catch a saddle while fishing. It is considered “treasure” and is therefore caught more often with the Luck of the Sea enchantment. The base chance with a normal fishing rod is 0.8%, so this is a pretty rare find. Master-level leatherworkers have a 50% chance to trade one saddle for six emeralds in Bedrock Edition. It is a guaranteed trade for Java Edition.

There are a couple of other places you can get a saddle. If any mob that is wearing a saddle dies, the saddle drops. Some Striders, those with zombified piglins riding them, spawn with a saddle. If you kill that mob, you will get a saddle. A Ravager, essentially the final boss of a raid, is guaranteed to drop a saddle when you kill it. Looting has no effect on this. For now, those are the only ways you can get saddles in Minecraft. There are plenty of places to look, but it is still not as simple as it could be if Mojang just taught players how to craft a saddle in Minecraft.
