Wondering how to make flower pots in Minecraft? You’re far from the only one. This item can be found naturally, but it’s not one that people craft themselves all that often. Part of the reason for that is, that despite it being a relatively uncomplicated item, the crafting recipe is convoluted and difficult to pull off. The items it needs aren’t straightforward to acquire and the item itself is often an afterthought. Nevertheless, here is your guide to making flower pots in Minecraft!

The first thing you need to make flower pots in Minecraft is bricks. In fact, those are the only items you need to make a flower pot. However, there is one key caveat. The bricks you might usually find, i.e. a block of bricks, are useless. They can’t be broken down into singular bricks, so you have to find three individual bricks to make one pot. Here’s what you need to do to find that:

  1. Find clay in rivers and other bodies of water
  2. Mine all of the blocks (ideally with a shovel)
  3. Collect all the clay balls
  4. Smelt the clay balls
  5. Use the bricks they produce to make flower pots

Instead of using bricks that you can otherwise find, the recipe involves making your own. That’s the biggest reason flower pots are so difficult to make. However, once you know the steps, it’s not that hard, although clay isn’t extremely abundant.

Additionally, if you can’t craft them, you can find them. Some chests hold them as loot:

  • Trail Ruin Suspicious Gravel (2.2% chance)
  • Village Mason’s Chest (20.8% chance)

They also naturally generate in witch huts, the basement of igloos, and in woodland mansions. You can find flower pots with items in them in savanna, desert, and taiga villages where raids can also occur.
