Novak Djokovic gives injury update on his hamstring following Adelaide triumph

on

Novak Djokovic says there is nothing too worrisome about his hamstring issue going into the Australian Open.

On Saturday, Djokovic pulled his leg during an Adelaide International semifinal against Daniil Medvedev.

Djokovic required an off-court medical timeout but was able to continue the match and eventually win in two sets.

The following day, Djokovic returned to the court and edged out Sebastian Korda in the Adelaide final 6-7 (8) 7-6 (3) 6-4.

“Woke up all right. Went deep into night last night with work done with the physio. Talk with the doctor. There was a lot of care going into today’s match. Few times in the match I felt was tightening up, the muscle, but nothing that would worry me,” Djokovic said, per Sasa Ozmo.

Djokovic wins his second Adelaide title

In his Adelaide main draw debut in 2007, Djokovic made it all the way.

16 years later, Djokovic returned to Adelaide and clinched his second title at the tournament.

Djokovic spent over a week in Adelaide as the Adelaide crowd gave him a very warm welcome.

After winning Adelaide, Djokovic acknowledged the outstanding support he was receiving throughout the entire tournament.

“It’s been an amazing week and you guys made it even more special. For me to be standing here is a gift, definitely. I gave it all today and throughout the week in order to be able to get my hands on the trophy. The support that I’ve been getting in the past 10 days is something that I don’t think I’ve experienced too many times in my life, so thank you so much [to] everyone for coming out every single match,” Djokovic reflected.

Now, Djokovic is heading to Melbourne for the Australian Open.

Djokovic has started his 2023 season on the best possible way and now he is the top favorite to win a record 10th Australian Open title.

It remains to be seen if Djokovic can win his 22nd Grand Slam this January.
