The grievance stemmed from a two-game suspension in 2022.

The New England Patriots and Jack Jones have finally reached an agreement following a grievance filed on behalf of the cornerback during the 2022 NFL season. According to a report by salary cap expert Miguel Benzan, the two sides quietly settled the matter earlier this offseason.

As part of that settlement Jones has received $23,889 in cash, while the Patriots’ salary cap was charged the sum of $4,778. The cash payout is equal to one week worth of salary on the defender’s contract in 2022.

The grievance itself was filed toward the end of Jones’ 2022 rookie campaign, after he was dealt a suspension by the team. The fourth-round draft pick had originally been placed on injured reserve on Dec. 31 that year due to a knee injury, but reportedly missed some team-mandated appointments during his rehabilitation process.

The suspension was eventually lifted, and Jones did return to the team. The grievance, however, remained unresolved until this year.

Jones, 26, arrived in New England as the 121st overall selection in the 2022 draft. Appearing in 13 games with two starts as a rookie, he proved to be an opportunistic player: Jones caught a pair of interceptions — including a pick-six against then-Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers — while also forcing and recovering one fumble each.

Despite his productivity, however, off-field questions continued to follow the young defensive back. After getting suspended by the team toward the tail-end of his first NFL season, he was arrested at Boston Logan Airport for allegedly trying to bring two handguns on a cross-country flight. While the charges were later dropped, Jones failed to develop into a reliable presence in the New England secondary.

He stated his 2023 sophomore season on injured reserve due to a hamstring issue, and saw uneven opportunities following his Week 7 return. After he missed curfew ahead of a Week 9 game against Washington, and playing just 10 snaps in a loss to Indianapolis the following week, the team pulled the plug: Jones was released in mid-November.

The Las Vegas Raiders claimed Jones off waivers the following day. He ended up playing seven games for his new team, returning both of his interceptions for touchdowns.
