This past offseason has been an up-and-down period for Miami Dolphins fans—first, some of the most popular players with fans left via free agency. While both sides of the ball took hits in the losses column, the defense had the most significant hits/losses. The biggest name to walk with is defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, who took a monster deal from the Las Vegas Raiders. Others lost were outside linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel, safety DeShon Elliot, safety Brandon Jones, and nose tackle Raekwon Davis. The Dolphins also released cornerback Xavien Howard, linebacker Jerome Baker, defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, and cornerback Keion Crossen.

The defensive additions began with a new defensive coordinator, Anthony Weaver. Weaver had previously served as a defensive assistant for the Baltimore Ravens but has a total of twenty years in the league, seven as a player and thirteen as a coach. Player additions in free agency include safety Jordan Poyer, outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett, cornerback Kendall Fuller, linebacker Jordyn Brooks, linebacker Anthony Walker Jr, nose tackle Benito Jones, defensive tackle Neville Gallimore, and defensive back Siran Neal. The Dolphins also added two pass rushers in the draft with the first-round selection of Chop Robinson and fifth-rounder Mohamed Kamara. Miami added another safety in the sixth round with their selection of Patrick McMorris.

The Dolphins’ defense has experienced a massive loss of players and the addition of many new players. The defense will also be designed and run by the third coordinator in as many years.

So tonight’s question is, do you see the Miami Dolphins defense taking a step back, taking a step forward, or remaining the same after the various losses and additions to the roster?
